Hi all!

First time poster here - I've searched all around the forums but considering the time difference between the hardware and OS, I guess no one else has run into this issue.

Does anyone have any experience/advice with running Mavericks on a GA-H170N build?

I need to use Mavericks (or lower, can't go beyond 10.9) for work. Would this motherboard be compatible with such a build?

Thank you all!

No. Can't be done. Try to find a Z68 or H67 chipset motherboard that is compatible with Lion Mavericks. Also can use Z77/H77 if you can locate one for sale at a reasonable price. Your best bet may be to watch and bid in Ebay auctions. If you can get a new Haswell Z87 motherboard and CPU that will work too but just for Mavericks, not any older OS X versions.

See: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...versions-of-os-x-using-older-chipsets.141225/

I'm running Mavericks on my Sandy Bridge #1 system and it is working flawlessly. The good news is that you can also upgrade these as far as Sierra later on if need be.

You can't use current hardware (Skylake / Kaby Lake) with Mavericks.

Best bet is to find a Sandy Bridge ( 6 series like H61 / H67 / P67 / Z68 ) / Ivy Bridge ( 7 series like B75 / H77 / Z77 ) motherboard, a corresponding CPU and a compatible graphics card like the Nvidia Kepler series ( GT640 / GTX650 / GTX650 Ti / GTX660 / GTX660 Ti / GTX670 / GTX680 ).

I currently use a Gigabyte P67 motherboard and a GTX660 graphics card. It runs Mountain Lion / Mavericks / Yosemite / El Capitan.

Z87 & Z97 would work also.
