Today Apple released macOS 13.1 Update, a major software update for macOS Ventura. Update any supported system using the built-in Software Update functionality through macOS System Settings.

What we know about 13.1 so far...
  • macOS Build 22C65
  • Updated graphics, audio drivers
  • Install macOS Ventura App has been updated - If you downloaded macOS Ventura from the App Store prior to today, and you want to have the latest version on your backup installer USB, simply log into the Mac App Store and click Download. The updated Install macOS Ventura App can be found in the Applications folder.
macOS Ventura 13.1 introduces Freeform, a new app that offers a great place to brainstorm and bring your ideas to life. This release also includes Advanced Data Protection for iCloud and other features and bug fixes for your Mac.

Freeform
Freeform is a new app for working creatively with friends or colleagues on Mac, iPad and iPhone
A flexible canvas lets you add files, images, stickies, and more
Advanced Data Protection for iCloud

New option expands the total number of iCloud data categories protected using end-to-end encryption to 23 – including iCloud Backup, Notes, and Photos – protecting your information even in the case of a data breach in the cloud
This update also includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

Improved search in Messages allows you to find photos based on their content, like a dog, car, person, or text
Participant Cursors in Notes allow you to see live indicators as others make updates in a shared note
Play sound in Find My app can now help you pinpoint the location of nearby AirTags, AirPods Pro (2nd generation) case, and Find My network accessories
Fixes an issue that causes some notes not to sync with iCloud after updates are made
Fixes an issue where you may lose keyboard and mouse input in some apps and games
Some features may not be available for all regions, or on all Apple devices.

Pre Update Notes
:
- This update may break some of your Ventura functions. Make sure you backup first.

Note: Before you update:
- Clover users must first disable or remove BlueToolFixup.kext in order to update. Otherwise the software update doesn't initialize it crashes System 'Settings'.
- make sure your USB ports are properly mapped. I recommend you use this procedure:

Here's the step by step way to update OC:
- Make sure you use the latest versions of the Lilu.kext, AppleALC.kext and WhateverGreen.kext.

:ch:
Backup your current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;

:ch:
Update to the latest Clover or OpenCore 0.8.6 or newer.
See the tonymacx86 Clover Builds (in Download menu) to update Clover. To update your OpenCore, see this guide. To convert from Clover to Open Core, see this guide.
:ch: Download OCAuxiliaryTools (OCAT):
https://github.com/ic005k/OCAuxiliaryTools
:ch: Follow the OCAT Guide:
https://github.com/5T33Z0/OC-Little-Translated/blob/main/D_Updating_OpenCore/README.md
:ch: After completing the Update, reboot.
:ch: Upon reaching the Desktop, open the Terminal and execute:
Code:
nvram 4D1FDA02-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B30102:opencore-version
Confirm you have updated OC to 0.8.6 or newer.

:ch:
Download the Ventura 13.1. Update from Apple's Mac App Store using System Preferences > Software Update, and run it - the updater will reboot upon completion.
Note: Update will reboot two times; each time Clover/OpenCore picks the correct boot partition. So, sit back and relax.

:ch:
Done! So far, another easy update!

Unfortunately OTA didn’t allow me to update further that it had to download the whole this time. Hope 13.1 won’t happen again.

Updated OpenCore, kexts then OS. No problems with the update.

Updated without a problem. OC Mod 0.8.8. But also for me happend "OTA didn’t allow me to update further that it had to download the whole this time". Also I have an Apple directory in my EFI now after the update.

Successful update, but already finding lots of new bugs.

These are two annoying me the most and affect real macs and hack:

If you attempt to do literally anything with iCloud in settings app the settings app just deadlocks. you can't even drag window around without it being a slide show. iCloud utterly hoses settings app.

Also, if you get texts on Messages app and read them, they are still sent to iPhone/Apple Watch anyways because macOS isn't properly flagging the app as in use on device.

Already updated last week when this was the RC release. So far, so good (my system does have an issue staying asleep but I think that's due to switching from a Fenvi Broadcom-based WiFi 5 card to an Intel-based WiFi 6E one).

Updated from 13.01 to 13.1, using software update. Running OC 0.8.7 and updated kexts. Updated as it should, and I walked away. I needed to reboot manually when I returned to my machine.
