macOS 10.15.3 Update

Today Apple released macOS 10.15.3 Update, a major software update to macOS Catalina. Update any supported system using the built-in Software Update functionality through the System Preferences pane or by using the standalone installer available from Apple.com.

What we know about the 10.15.3 Update so far...

• macOS Build 19D76
• Updated Intel and AMD graphics drivers
• Updated audio drivers- established users of Catalina with AppleALC or VoodooHDA should not need to update.
• Install macOS Catalina App has been updated - If you downloaded macOS Catalina from the App Store prior to today, and you want to have the latest version on your backup installer USB, simply log into the Mac App Store and click Download. The updated Install macOS Catalina App can be found in the Applications folder.

The ‌macOS Catalina‌ 10.15.3 update improves the stability, reliability and security of your Mac, and is recommended for all users.
This update:

• Optimizes gamma handling of low gray levels on Pro Display XDR for SDR workflows when using macOS
• Improves multi-stream video editing performance for HEVC and H.264 encoded 4K video on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)

Pre Update Notes:
- This update may break some of your Catalina functions, like audio. Make sure you backup first.

- Make sure you use the latest versions of the Lilu.kext, AppleALC.kext and WhateverGreen.kext. They will be in the Downloads > Kexts area.

Here's the step by step way to update:
Backup your current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner (see the link above to CaseySJ's script) or SuperDuper;

(Optional - See Note) Update to the latest Clover
See the tonymacx86 Clover Builds (in Download menu) to update Clover.

Starting in February 2020, Apple will "clamp down" on non Apple approved kexts. So, update Lilu, WhatEverGreen and AppleALC, placing them in your /EFI/.../Clover/kexts/other/. Remove these kexts from the /Library/Extensions/ folder. If you haven't already, move any other hackintosh kexts from /Library/Extensions/ folder to the .../Clover/kexts/other/ folder. Then run the following Terminal command to rebuild the macOS cache:

sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
sudo kextcache -system-caches

If you are updating from 10.15.2, then you don't need to apply any new Port Limit Removal Patches. If you are updating from macOS before Catalina, apply any 10.15.0 Port Limit Removal Patches. Better yet, if you have created a SSDT-USB, then you're all set.

Download the Catalina 10.15.3 Update in Post #1 or the update from Apple's Mac App Store and run it - the updater will reboot upon completion.
Note: Update will reboot teo times; each time Clover picks the correct boot partition. So, sit back and relax.

You do need to watch that you boot from the correct disk after each restart (The one with 'Install' in the title) as the system seems to default to anything but the right one.

All done - Direct down load and install took approximately 30 minutes and 3 restarts. Build (19D76)
