I am attempting to update my system listed in my profile from Sierra to Mojave and I am using an external drive to work out the procedures. I have been able to upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.2 on the external drive and am attempting to update to 10.13.6 (I will swap out my Nvidia card for a AMD card). I have tried both the app store 10.13.6 update and the 10.13.6 combo update and I get the same results. The update starts the install, asks to reboot, black screen with Apple logo saying that it is installing the update and then a reboot. I use clover to select the external drive and when I log it is still on 10.13.2 and the App store shows the 10.13.6 update as available. Just to be sure, I also tried to boot the Install MacOS option on that external drive and it told me it could not install.

Does anyone have an idea of where I am going wrong?

Thanks!

@ArmoredMac I think you might have to change your SMBIOS in clover. Mac Pro 5,1 does no longer work in 10.13.6. I use iMac 17,1 now. You might need to select another system (depending on your intel processor series) You also need whatevergreen kext and Lilu Kext if you use Nvidia (otherwise blackscreen at startup). Not sure if you need these with AMD card.

Huug,
Thanks for the response! I am currently using iMAC14,2 in my SMBIOS and for this process I have disabled the Nvidia web drivers, and I just using the default very low res drivers for the upgrade. I will check out whatevergreen and Lilu kexts; I have not used them in the past. Other than that, any idea why system is not updating? It can boot 10.13.2 just fine, but after running the update, I am still on 10.13.2.....

Thanks!

There is a menu "bar" at the top of this thread under the tonymacx86 logo that runs across the width of this page. The Download drop down menu is on the right in the menu "bar".

Hi

Thank you.

No patch needed for the USB patch.

The supplemental update worked fine on my Coffee Lake build ("Mini-ITX 3" below), but not on my Haswell build ("Mini-ITX 1" below). The whole procedure looked normal until the final boot on the SSD. That completed the Apple progress bar, then sat there for about 20 seconds and then rebooted to a "Your computer is rebooting because of a problem" (or about that) and after that, nothing but repeating the cycle over & over. Tried many troubleshooting steps, but was forced to CCC my build 17G8030 back onto the "updated" SSD. It works fine once again.
