Comments:
I changed the case and PSU since this system was originally built. I built a new X58A-UD5 system for my every day system, viewtopic.php?f=54&t=14260 and this is now my X58 test/development system.

Re: MacMan Build - GA-X58A-UD3R - i7 930 - HD 5770

Hi,

I'm about to take the plunge, have been checking out the different builds and user opinions, as well as the hardware options available to me (I'm in Thailand).

This setup looks nice (might go for I5 instead), but I'm concerned with this MB. Some people seem to have issues with their rigs using this board.

What has been you experience with your build so far? Running 100% reliable?

Please leave some feedback.

Cheers,
Jo

This system is running rock solid with no issues.

Great, thanks for your reply, btw, is your MB rev. 1 or 2?
Rev. 2

Hi MacMan!

First thanks for all your amazing input and help. I have built a system following your guide (the only difference being NVIDIA 8800GT). I do have an issue though which I'm hoping you might be able to shed some light on:

I've been getting major CPU spikes and have narrowed the problem down to PCI cards inserted in the system. If I remove the cards (Pro Sound Card and DSP effects card (UAD-1)) the spikes go away. However, to replace my PCI cards with PCI express/firewire I need to spend another $1,300. :-/

The PCI cards work perfectly in my older Asus P55/Q6600 Hackintosh.

Can you suggest how I might fix this problem?

Many thanks upfront!

Cheers

Ron

Hi MacMan

I just helped a buddy build out this system using the same MB but a i7-950, and we're having some issues with the sound and network. Could you confirm which guide you used? I'm seeing conflicting info on which sound codec to use and network. We're using lnx2mac's driver now and that seems ok but just want to confirm.

We also followed your guide for the Gigabyte Radeon 5770 (to use ATY_vervet) and graphics are all good but didn't see anything about using DSDT.

Are you using the FB DSDT from here? What about the smbios.plist? Use the MacPro4,1 or use the iMac11,1?

I created this guide, viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4837 using this hardware.

Re: MacMan Build - GA-X58A-UD3R - i7 930 - HD 5770

thanks for posting this, i am about to place an order for these parts. i was wondering if i could put in a faster processor like a i7-950 3.06 ghz and a better video card without much issues in terms of installing osx?

are there any other easy upgrades to this configuration that wouldn't cause many or any problems when installing osx?

will this card work?

thanks again for the great site, i hope you get a commission when i click your links and buy the stuff at amazon.

i just built this system with a i7-950 no problems there. make sure you get an aftermarket cooler though these i7s run hot with the stock heatsink (even at stock speeds).

for the video card the gtx260/gtx285 are supported fine, check the wiki to see if there is feedback for your specific brand, or see how close your model matches a verified model. graphics can be the biggest headache if you select a card that doesn't work oob.
