update2.jpgToday Apple released an update for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0.

According to the support site description: This update includes graphics performance and reliability enhancements and improves compatibility with some USB devices. This update is recommended for all Mac notebooks introduced in June 2012.

Looks like there are some new graphics drivers to poke around at. This update is a standard update for all 2012 MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros since June 2012 running Mountain Lion:

These drivers should be considered experimental- if you end up installing, share your results here!

To install from 10.8.2:

1. Change your /Extra/smbios.plist to MacBookPro10,1 (or any of these mac system defs).
2. Reboot
3. Install the .pkg
4. Reboot again
5. You may then change your smbios back to the previous MacPro3,1 or the like.

UPDATE 11/17: Looks like Apple's pulled this update for now. We'll see if these drivers turn up in 10.8.3.

A few notes:

System Software Overview:
System Version: OS X 10.8.2 (12C3006)
Kernel Version: Darwin 12.2.1

Graphics Drivers:
HD 4000:
AppleIntelHD4000Graphics.kext 8.6.22
NVIDIA GeForce Kepler:
NVDAGK100Hal 8.6.22 304.10.20f04
(standard 10.8.2 Build 12C60 is NVDAGK100Hal 8.0.61 295.30.20f02)

I wanted to try it out but every time I hit Download I get a not found page

Seems to be the same (NVidia) driver released in the previous special update.

Whoa- broken link on that page- the direct link here worked for me: http://support.apple.com/downloads/

Seems to be the same (NVidia) driver released in the previous special update.

You're right- so all Ivy Bridge Macs are pretty much on this set of drivers and kernel version now. This update should be very similar to the Special 10.8.2 Update here:

NOTE: For anyone looking at this in confusion- all of these drivers will eventually make it to 10.8.3. It's a matter of time.

Have the USB drivers been updated since the special Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook Pro update? Or is this install basically the same thing?

Thanks,

Mrengles

Unfortunatly this driver still generate some random freeze on my GTX550 ti, so I still hope in some further driver update for 10.8.3 (please apple, read this post.... :D)

1. Open Install Package, look for file Distribution
2. Open this file and remove hardware model's test
3. Save install package
