Hi guys!
First of all, I want to thank the comunity for this amazing resource! Keep it up guys!!
Well, it's been years since I fell in love with this case, and a month or so ago I found one online and bught iit. (I'm in Chile, and here you don't see them very often for sale..)
It was a "as is" system, with power supply, motherboard, fans and HDDs bays.
I bought a mATX board, a VGA and started sorting out how could fit them with as modifications to the case as possible.
I bought an acrylic sheet and cut the original stand offs to achieve the correct height, including some new stand offs for the mAYX board.
After that I dissasembly my new PSU and retrofited it inside the case of the original Apple PSU.
At first I was going to use the modular cable of the original PSU and solder it to the new one, but the pin count wasen't enought. So after some cable management I was able to fit everything tight and tidy inside. Also took a 2 pin conector so I could connect the external fan directlu to the PSU.
Of couse the cable lenght wasn't enought and I'm going to fabricate some cable extensions.
Next step is conecting the front panel to the motherboard and figure out how to wire the I/O shield at the back.
I was thinking on doing an adaptor to re route the USB and audio jacks, plus the ethernet port of the mAYX, (as I'll not be using the others ports in the back) and mount them to the original I/O shield.
As for storage, first thought about the SAS adaptor but it cost like 90USD to get it shipped to Chile, so I'm looking to buy the corsair part that looks almost the same.
Will be installing a blueray disk plus a DVD drive mechanisim turned into a card reader, so It wont be visible unless the drive is out.
After everything works and the system is up and running, I'll install a custom watercooling loop using a 2 120mm rads and a CPU blocl.
Will be uploading tje pictures and updating this thread soon.
PS: It's been more than 12 years since my last PC MOD&Build... feels good to be back.
