If the video card gets too hot, go for an Nvidia Quadra 4200 or Firepro W7000 or Radeon Pro wx5100 or wx7100 depending upon your budget. At least you have the holes facing up so the heat can escape.
Finally some real progress! All parts are now fabricated and assembled so it was time for a major test fit before i can start sanding and painting.
I am very pleased with the result so far. The unit feels solid and is heavy. Everything fits quite nicely and my confidence that i will finish this thing grows by the hour. One setback is that the power cables are short and stiff and thus prevent me from installing the front fan at this moment... I might buy other ones later on. For now i am happy to see everything pieced together!
Backplate for sturdiness; with PCIe extension + bracket, PSU bracket, HDD bracket and a cover to somewhat hide the cable management in the back.
Shoe-horned everything in place
Some clearance in the top for breathing of the psu.
The locking mechanism has gotten a new hearcut too. No part has been untouched.
Power cables are taking up more space than i imagined. The case looks bend but that is just how my Chinese phone camera sees the world. It looks like a straight solid and powerful machine. Can't wait to fire it up!
After a good 2-3 days of reading and trying there is now a fresh install of Mojave 14.14.6 running at my fingertips. The process of getting Mojave up and running is really easy with the right tools at hand but i must gripe one time about how difficult it is to find the right documentation. Guides are either too detailed or too vague about what's going on under the hood. That being said: every wish has been fulfilled so far. USB, audio, ethernet, power management, displayport.
I could not help myself to check my geekbench scores to see if benchmarks are meeting expectations. Nothing too crazy. GPU is running on 6pin but it has more than enough power for me right now.
