Mac OS X Mavericks Safari, Launchpad, Mail and lots more are flickering lots!

Should I upgrade my ATI Radeon HD 5450? Even though it works!

  • No, it's a waste of money as it works!

Hi. I sort of need a problem for you clever people to solve for me. I have a Mavericks 10.9.2 version and I used the download off Mac App Store to create a Unibeast USB. It has installed perfectly with no kernel panics or anything. I used Multibeast to download:

EasyBeast
Realtek Without DSDT ALC888 Current
3rd Party SATA
PS/2 Keyboard/Mice and Trackpads
Chimera v2.2.1
Instant Menu
AppleRTL8169Ethernet 2.0.6

I only downloaded these as they were vitally important, also I don't know what information would be useful so I just gave you ALL my information! :lolno:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.50GHz
Video Adapter: AMD Radeon HD 5450 1GB/ATI Radeon HD 5450
Screen Res: 1440x900
4GB RAM
Motherboard: Asus Benicia
Intel G33 Chipset
Ethernet: RTL8168
Audio: Realtek HDA

In Safari, the Favourites/Bookmarks box starts flickering first, then the Top Sites part starts flickering. After that the URL bar just keeps flickering. I have downloaded Java and Flash Player using Opera.

If anyone can help me please do. I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Flicker, flicker, FLICKEH!!!

Also, Apple related downloads seem to be affected too! I opened something from the Mac App Store and it showed the same flickering syndrome!

More things flickering!

Bump!

I think that the 5450 has been a problem on Mavericks. Here is a few links to look over:

If you can't get it running easily then I suggest upgrading to a newer more powerful and better supported card as the 5450 is getting on now.

Thanks Adrian B. I will try the kext method in a minute, hope it works! :)
And I thought that this 5450 was just a little old now, but what can I say? £25.95 from Amazon! Cheap indeed!

Do you have any cards that are under £100, run well as a hackintosh mavericks and more powerful in mind? I would love to hear suggestions. :ugeek:

Works! Thanks so much! Had that annoying problem for a while now.
Now I can enjoy going back to Safari and viewing everything without getting Epilepsy, if I had any.
I shall go on his post to thank him too!
Thanks you 2! :p

The Nvidia GT 640 is around £65 at present and represent excellent value for money. From AMD look at the HD7770 for around £90. There will be updates over the later part of the summer for some of the newer hardware in the buyers guide.

For AMD 7770 installation you will need to install the boot loader and the 'extra' folder to the EFI partition of your installation drive:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/401-install-bootloader-extra-efi-partition.html

EDIT - The GT640 does not require additional 12v power connections and works fine with a 350w PSU. Double check your PSU for suitability before upgrading your GPU.

I might look into the Nvidia GT 640, heard pretty good reviews of it.
