Thanks guys for all the praise! :D

Today I did some final works and the project is finished now - if a Hackintosh ever can be finished...

Filing the window for the IR sensor:

The mounted window:

The wired front plate with the IR sensor:

The "SATA power to Dock Connector" adapter cable for the iPod: I did not want an USB connection to the mainboard. The USB data lines are connected via resistors to tell the iPod that 500mA current is available. The required circuit is shown here: http://www.simple-electronics.com/2011/09/iphone-charger-circuit.html

The finished inside:

The bottom with the intake grid:

The back side:

The finished front with the iPod desktop in landscape format:

And the finished Audio System:

Happy hacking

This is a thoroughly professional product in every sense. Manufacturers really should take note of this kind of quality........well done MacTester.

It'd be nice to see this get a front page feature....

Thanks again for all the kind comments! :D

I have two questions to the software specialists here:
- Is there an iOS App, which is able to show the actual iTunes cover (from OS X) in landscape format on the iPod? (unfortunately the "Apple Remote" App does not work in landscape mode, even when "SBRotator" is installed)
- Or would it be possible to create an App, which is able do do this?

Any answer is highly appreciated.

As far as I can tell, there is no such app.
It is definitely possible to "create" (program) an app which could do this, BUT for this you need to be able, to stream the actual iTunes cover to your device.
IMHO it is easier to create an server on your mac, which hosts an html page with the actual cover.
For this you need to know where the actual cover can be taken from (I think, the biggest problem is to get the cover change on your html page, because the server needs to detect, that the cover has changed), as source you would need to find out how iTunes streams the cover in its window, and then implement it in your server.
If you were able to do all this, you can just open safari on your ipod touch and open the just created webpage.

Good luck on doing this.
