a little update. i orignally purchased a xdx 7850 card, but after adding the two kext for that card i couldn't
get OpenCL to work. so i swapped it out for a xfx r270x. its worked oob.

Some interesting results..

AMD Radeon 6870 1Gb - 665
Intel HD4000 1Gb - 181
Intel Core i7 3770k by itself - 463

I wasn't expecting the processor to be fairly close to the Radeon, though it is an older card nowadays..

i7 3770k | Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H | 16Gb 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM | Diamond Radeon 6870 1Gb

I got some new hardware so I'm back in windows, but decided to run some tests. I had some openCL issues with the cryptocoin mining being very slow under macOS, and ended up picking up a Radeon 290x that isn't supported by MacOS yet. Will probably be going back to mac when it has support.

Going by these, the 290x is an OpenCL BEAST lol

AMD Radeon 6870 under windows - 635
AMD Radeon 290x under windows - 2673
Intel Core i7 4930k under windows - 828

New system is i7 4930k | Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 | 32Gb 1866Mhz DDR3 RAM | Sapphire Radeon 290x 4Gb

I just finished a hackintosh build - big thanks to everyone on this forum! will try to post a build log soon.

Anyway, I went with dual 280x in a uATX case. I ran som basic speed tests to see how it works, and the Luxmark scores were.. well.. decent :D

EDIT: Disabled IGPU to get full QE/CI, with only the dual 280x I got 4586

2 questions stingray:

1. What CPU you have? I didnt know IRIS PRO Graphic Card in any Desktop CPU yet?
2. you said 2 280x gave you 4586 Points, so the IRIS is doing 2000 points?

1. 4770k (haswell i7) clocked to 4.3 GHz
2. I didn't try the IGPU by itself, but yes, it seems like it. It does seem like a lot now that you mention it, I will try later to run it only on the igpu and see what numbers I get.

well, would be cool if you can redo the test:

one test 2 x r9 280x
another test only CPU
another test only IGPU

i am impressed with your results and i would like to know which component increase your result so much :)

I will try to do it later tonight (not at that computer now). Do I need to physically remove the cards or can I just check which cards to use in the benchmarks? I have only used luxmark once, and that was when I tested the complete setup above :p.

EDIT: Just tried it, very easy to figure out :)

This is extremely odd. I just got home and re-ran the tests. Here's what happened:

* IGPU + dual 280x (made sure it was GPUs only): 6423
* Single 280x: 2305
* Dual 280x: 4573
* CPU only: 493
* IGPU only: 263

I have NO idea how 4573 + 263 get to 6423 :). But if I activate all three GPUs, that's what I get. I double-checked the settings and re-ran it again just to make sure, and got the same score (+/- a few points).

Edit: I also tried one 280x + IGPU, which gave 2573, which seems accurate. Probably a bug in the program when testing three gpu's, it seems to give the IGPU the same scores as the 280x'es.

A quick off-topic remark here - I'm also into crypto currency mining, that's one reason why I went with 280x in my rig. However, I get about 740-750kh/s in windows, and 520-530 under MacOS :(. I will try some extra tuning, but the main culprit seems to be that the AMD ADL SDK isn't available for mac (the library that allows cgminer to control things as memory/core speed and such). From what my google-fu told me, it's also very unlikely to ever be ported, so we're stuck without those options on OS X. Too bad, for now I will have to boot into windows for mining, or lose 20-30% hashrate :(
