Today I'm celebrating 1 year of Hackintoshing and tonymacx86 membership !...
Happy birthday to me :p

What-a-ride !!!
Let's recap what happened in this last year...

February-March 2010:
  • Decided that building a hackintosh could be a cool pet project[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • Started lurking in InsanelyMac and tonymacx86[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • Read a lot, and decided on a list of components[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 11-Mar-10: Finally registered and posted asking for confirmation of my build viewtopic.php?f=22&t=735&p=6259[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 28-Mar-10: Received all parts, and finalized building my hack :headbang: [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 29-Mar-10: Apple releases 10.6.3 and breaks audio on GA-P55M-UD2  [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 29-Mar-10: Fed up with LG DVD spinning randomly :banghead: [/*:m:1u43qqr5]

April-May 2010:
  • 01-Apr-10: Replaced LG DVD with a Sony-Optiarc[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 02-Apr-10: Warned against LG DVDs... viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1100&p=9648[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 09-Apr-10: Switched my UD2 for a UD4

    The tonymacx86 community rocks !!!

Got addicted to hacking my rig and reading the forum daily :ugeek:

    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • Researched BIOS settings for optimal performance[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • Got into DSDT hacking... Whoohoo this is cool ! :ugeek:

By this time, I'm totally hooked !
I'm spending most of the day in the Forum, trying to help as much people as I can.

Getting the same questions over and over, I start redirecting people to my previous posts...
As it starts to become hard to track relevant posts, I start thinking of documenting my experiences in a Hackintosh blog... [/*:m:1u43qqr5]

June-July 2010:
  • 17-Jun-10: tonymacx86 sends me a PM "would you want to become a mod?"
    Why, of course !
    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 26-Jun-10: http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/ goes live !

Days are spent moderating the Forum, and blogging... [/*:m:1u43qqr5]

August-September 2010:
  • 19-Aug-10: Knowing I'm a Linux kernel hacker, MacMan asked if I want to take a look at adding support for the 8111E to R1000SL :ugeek: [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 21-Aug-10: Released first Alpha RealtekRTL81xx v0.0.1 to MacMan for him to test on 8111E

Over the course of one week, I released 33 Alpha versions and we kept testing on various platforms.
    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 28-Aug-10: Released v0.0.33 as a restricted Beta to a "small" group of 88 Beta Testers :shh:
    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 15-Sep-10: Released the 6th restricted Beta v0.0.67 :shh:
This one is looking really good !
    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 20-Sep-10: Announced v0.0.67 as a Public Beta http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/2010/09/lnx ... -goes.html  [/*:m:1u43qqr5]

October-November 2010:
  • I've been replying to literally hundreds of RTL81xx support (and thank you) emails.[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • I start restructuring the driver, fixing bugs, and adding new features.

    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 25-Oct-10: Lifehacker issues an article featuring iBoot and MultiBeast... http://lifehacker.com/5672051/how-to-bu ... easy-steps

Moderating the forum gets intense.

    [/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • With the lessons learned from the support questions I got, I decide to provide an installer to help less-experienced users in getting the driver. :banghead:[/*:m:1u43qqr5]
  • 12-Nov-10: The installer is publicly released http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/2010/11/lnx ... aller.html[/*:m:1u43qqr5]

December 2010-February 2011:
I'm overloaded with freelance Linux development work :beachball:, sometimes doing :beachball: 65 hours a week... :beachball:
I barely find time to handle my email and my blog comments. o_O
Forum moderation and RTL81xx development is limited to weekends. :problem:

March 2011:
11-March 2010: Apple makes iPad 2 available... But it ships in 2-3 weeks :(

Anyway, what a great way to celebrate my 1st year of Hackintoshing !!! :headbang:

Now, on to another exciting year !
