    Hot damn, I got it working with the GA-Z170X-Designare

    With a caveat, it isn't 5K, not even 4K.

    $ system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType |grep Resolution
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 59 Hz
    Resolution: 3360 x 1890

    But at least I'm one step closer.

    Good stuff! Hope you get it working at 5k!

    I was just thinking, what GPU would drive that display in OSX? Cant be iGPU, nor NVIDIA as there are no drivers for 10 series.

    Using SwitchResX I can get 4K and 5K.

    $ system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType |grep Resolution
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 59 Hz
    Resolution: 5120 x 2880

    Brightness control doesn't work though, nor audio through the LG's speakers.

    About brightness & audio: are you using the latest macOS?

    Brightness controlling & Audio act as special USB devices (at least for the 4K one. not sure about the 5K).

    What's under you 'System Infomation -> USB'?
