Hey all,

I upgraded to Yosemite without much changes between Mavericks (nor Mountain Lion). I'm fully operational!

The only things I had to worry about were, again, Bluetooth and Audio because of my modified kexts. Because Yosemite will NOT allow unsigned/modified kexts to load naturally, any kexts that you have that are tweaked/hacked/etc will not work. So you can get around this by making sure to disable signing of all kext files. Warning: not the most secure option, but everyone's doing it. I did this by adding to org.chameleon.boot.plist:
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>kext-dev-mode=1</string>

For further information, please see the thread [Work In Progress] Lenovo Z580 ML Installation.

A newer thread specific to Mavericks should also be referenced: Lenovo Z580 Mav Installation

Side note: I'm having the same problems with iMessage not working, so if you want/need iMessage, refer to other sources BEFORE upgrading to Yosemite. It'll probably be a Clover install. I don't really use it on my laptop, so I didn't use it.

hey there..
i am having sleep problems on yosemite.
It sleeps and wakes up in a second...
you having the same problem?

Lenovo z580 Yosemite Install mini guide (and some questions)

Thanks to Birkley, Rehabman and Nozyczek for great help...

Simply, for an almost fully working Z580 (model number 20135 (i5-3210m) )
When you reach to Yosemite desktop
(Lots of guides around about that, or follow the first entry of Birkleys)
Download latest chimera and install it,
replace the Extra folder with the one attached,
install kexts attached and done...
fix permissions and restart.

Working
Audio
HDMI with sound (yey!.. finally!!)
Sleep
Graphics with QE/CI on intel
touchpad
Usb (USB 3.0 ports on 2.0 speed)
Battery info
Network
Wifi (with changed wifi card -Atheros ar9285-)
Bluetooth
Webcam
Some Fn buttons (sound, Brightness, Touchpad on/off, Screen off, are the ones i tested)
iCloud, appstore, facetime
Turboboost
Speedstep

Not Working
iMessage
Card reader
Brightness OSD
power button sleep,restart, shutdown menu
Screen dim before sleep
fan speed sensor on HW Monitor

I don't know if dvd works or not because i installed main HDD there
with this and installed an SSD at the main hdd bay.
ITs amazing.. strongly reccomended.

All and all i have
5938 on multicore
and 2843 on single core
on geekbench 3

Have fun everyone..

Guys, I've been on Mountain Lion for some time now. I'm attempting to do a fresh install of Yosemite using Nozyczek's guide. I know most all of the work was done by you guys here. I'm having trouble with initial booting from USB. Getting service exited with abnormal code 1 (window server). Any advice?

If you have UEFI, you should really consider using Clover: http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...oting-os-x-installer-laptops-clover-uefi.html

First of all, this site and the people on it have been extremely helpful in setting up this laptop to run native MacOS. I really do appreciate it.

My question is this: everyone talks about this AR9285 wifi card. It appears some have come out of HP laptops. For example, this one is on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atheros-AR5...422?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec1425106. Amazon has this one: http://www.amazon.com/Atheros-AR5B95-AR9285-802-11B-PCI-E/dp/B005HMZ8B2. At the bottom it mentions about an adapter. Do I really need that part?

Also, what is really annoying is that my current Wi-Fi dongle, the ASUS N-10 works flawlessly in Yosemite 10.10.1 using Chameleon. However, the identical build in Clover causes the connection to constantly go up and down.

Any help on either would be much appreciated.

You should refer to your service manual if you have questions regarding the form factor. Most laptops use a half-mini PCIe, although newer laptops are moving to NGFF.

Also, your BIOS may implement a WiFi whitelist.

Without more information about your Clover and Chameleon configuration, no conclusions can be made.

It is a stock Intel Centrino N2200, the same that Birkley and silverstorm replaced in their laptops. It says it is a half-mini PCIe and does not have a whitelist.

I assume you mean the text config files that one uses to customize Chameleon and Clover, respectively.
