I've already tried, but ethernet still shows up as eth1

You probably didn't remove the preferences file before rebooting. Also, all interfaces must be removed before removing the preferences file.

Exact order is important.

Exactly what i did, not sure why you don't believe me.

Perhaps you should try a fresh install.

The procedures I have in the README have always worked in the past.

This board has two ethernet ports that i disabled via bios, could enabling them make any difference?

Irrelevant as far as NullEthernet...

If the Ethernet devices you have onboard are supported, you could use one of them instead of NullEthernet.

Have you determined which Ethernet devices you have and if they are supported?

Not sure about the model but it works by default
