Laptop Compatibility

The performance of OS X will be good without graphics working and using onboard system graphics? Currently I have Dell XPS L501x. It is Core i7, first generation (Nehalem) and it does NOT come with onboard graphics. There was no Optimus at my time and there is no switching to onboard or discrete. So my Hackintosh uses Nvidia graphics only.

If you were to hack it, you'd use the Nvidia chip.

This laptop is 4 years old now and I am thinking to upgrade. I don't game at all, so I don't even need discrete graphics card. Now since I have to use Onboard graphics only, I am confused whether I should go ahead and upgrade or stick with it.

With your particular laptop, onboard graphics is not an option as it doesn't have it.

For modern laptops with Intel HD integrated graphics, the performance is adequate for everyday tasks (non-gaming), and even adequate for so-called light gaming (not a gamer either).

I have a Dell 3137

Intel Celeron 2955U / 1.4 GHz
Intel HD Graphics 1366 x 768 (HD) WLED
Memory: 8GB Ram
Hard Drive: 256 MB SSD
WIFI: Broadcom BMC94352HMB/BCM94352
Audio: Realtek ALC3223

I want to duel boot windows 7 and OSX 10.10.3 on this unit as I am from time to time needing a mac to perform some tasks. Not enough to buy a unit but more than running a Virtual Box image in it.

I had a few issues booting up Unibeast and I have worked thru all of them by reading thru the forums and leveraging all the excellent work from the community.

I am currently stuck on "VM Swap Subsystem in ON". From what the forums are telling me this is a Graphic Chip set recognition issues.

I have tried to inject the following ID using the following boot flags (-v -x IGPlatformID=)
01620005
01620006
01620007
01660000
01660001
01660002
01660003
01660004
01660008
01660009
0166000A
0166000B

None have worked so far and I have been getting stuck.

Am I heading down the wrong path? Any suggestions to help me to get to the installed to fire up?

Well that explains it... This unit will now get passed down to the kids..... Time to look at a XPS 13...

Hi RehabMan,

For the past month, I've been reading and rereading this thread and looked at numerous laptops using post #1 as a reference. I want to hackintosh a laptop, but before I buy a laptop, I want to know if these are contenders:

1. Lenovo z50-70
CPU: 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4510U Processor (2.00GHz 1600 MHz 4MB)
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 4400
RAM: 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz

2. Toshiba Satellite S70-BBT2N23
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
Mobile Intel® HM86 Express Chipset 16GB DDR3L 1600MHz

Which would be the better choice? I know that Broadwell isn't supported, the graphics have to be onboard and not dedicated. Is there something I'm missing from post 1 that I should know about? If these aren't compatible, what laptops would you suggest that are non HP?

Thanks

Hi RehabMan,

Definitely possible. You should check on WiFi/BIOS whitelist.

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
Mobile Intel® HM86 Express Chipset 16GB DDR3L 1600MHz

Graphics?

Broadwell is supported but is a bit difficult to hack due to the need to set DVMT-prealloc (although ASUS laptops seem to have the ability to set it right from BIOS). Also, Broadwell is new, so all the tools are not quite in place.
