after digging for useful cases i found out that a lacie 5 big network v1 case can fit a mini-itx mainboard perfectly.
all to be done is milling a slot at the bottom to slide the board in.
it fits with a little bendig and some gaffer tape to prevent an electrical short.
the fan exhaust is recycled from the 5big and screwed to a aluminum plate, the silent noctua fan sucks hot air from an akasa cooler out of the case.
the aluminum plate also fits the leds and power button to switch the computer on via the blue button on the case front. the plate holds the ssd and would even have space for more drives.
power comes from a pico psu providing 150 watts.
the board is a cheap ga-b75n itx with a i5 3570k, 8 gb and an old airport mini-pcie card.
an aluminum combined wlan antenna and power holder is screwed onto the board holes on top of the dvi port.
i use onboard graphics, there is not space for a pcie card.

it is all a bit quick and dirty but it is running mavericks totally silent for long now.
