Kernel panic when I turn off external hard drive

I can't seem to find a thread on this, so I thought I'd post it.

I have a RAID 5 (with 4x 4TB Toshiba X300 drives) that I created and manage using SoftRAID v5.7.5. I can mount/unmount the RAID just fine. But if I power it down while it is unmounted, my computer does a hard reset. Currently, the only USB-related kexts I have installed are FakePCIID.kext, FakePCIID_XHCIMux.kext, and GenericUSBXHCI.kext (the last release: 2015-1215). The drive is plugged into a 3rd party USB PCI card (Rosewill RC-508). Without GenericUSBXHCI.kext, my computer does not recognize the drive.

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH rev 1.1
OSX: High Sierra 10.13.6

It's not a huge deal as I can shut down my system if I need to power down the drive, but I thought I'd see if anyone has a quick fix.

Try removing it and see if it helps.
 
Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this and it did not work. I think it has something to do with SoftRAID. I took a video of the occurrence: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6Ci8P3zAa5qkM5ki9. I have posted on the SoftRAID support forum as well and will update this thread with any solutions from them.
