Kernel Panic. Can't even install 10.9.2 on first build.

I've seen this error with the 10.9.2 installer, its not a nice thing to be greeted with for a first timer.

Although I didnt find the exact cause of it, it is most likely memory related. What I did was to pull all of the memory except for one stick, completed the install, and then put the rest of the memory back in.

You could also try using this boot flag : maxmem=4096

Thats not guaranteed to work but may help you.

Also, make sure your memory is correctly configured in your bios. 1600Mhz is the default for Haswell, so make sure you pick the correct XMP Profile so its configured to the right speed and timings.

Darkzeroj is correct btw. Please post any further requests for assistance in the correct forum.

Thanks a million!!! I was having lots of kernel panics and this flag helped me to get to the installer.

I used: -x PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnabler=No maxmem=4096

From what I can see I've got an identical build as macgamer19, nice build :D and nice job getting it working. Regarding kernel panics though, I've tried all of the aforementioned suggestions with out success.

I've followed the build guides closely and I can't think of any settings in UEFI I have missed. Is there any obvious reason besides a RAM issue? Anything I should triple check? After selecting the USB as boot drive, the screen flashes the Apple logo and then reboots.

UPDATE: I reflashed 2.30A and made it to installer! Will update again.
UPDATE 2: Everything is working perfectly.

Hi guys,

I'm definitely new at this. First build ever. Trying to put together a double boot system (Win7 & Mavericks) with separate SSD's.
Specs (everything was bought using the Buyer's Guide):
  • Intel Core i7-4770K
  • Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
  • Corsair Vengeance LP 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800)
  • PNY GTX 770 2GB
  • Corsair Professional Series HX 750
  • SanDisk Extreme SSD 120 GB (in which I'm trying to install Mavs)
  • Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB (in which I already installed Win7)
  • LG Electronics 14x Internal BDXL Blu-Ray Burner Rewriter WH14NS40

When I tried to boot from UniBeast, this is what I got after a few seconds:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xFFFFFF000002526FF): "a freed zone element has been modified: expected 0xdeadbeef'deadbeef" but found 0xdeadbeef88098809; bits changed 0x56a43e6; at offset 48 of 64"@zone: kalloc.64"ë/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422. 90.

Like I mentioned, I already installed Win7 and had no trouble whatsoever, so I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the hardware. I've unplugged all SSD's and HDD's except for the one I'll be using to install the OS in. I also tried to install Mavs with and without the GTX770, running the GraphicsEnabler=Yes, GraphicsEnabler=No, etc. Also, I've tried running it on verbose mode, in which it takes considerably longer to get to the same spot, but it does, in the end.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Im having the same problem... I a newb (But i have a pro sat next to me!) but we have never did a hackintosh, we have tried EVERYTHING on this page but it still won't work. My build is the "CustoMac mini" PLZ HELP!

I'm having the EXACT same problem and am starting to have a little kernel panic of my own. I too have a Buyer's guide build:

Intel i3-4330
Crucial Ballistix Sport Very Low Profile 8GB Single DDR3-1600 1.35V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory Module
Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI
Samsung 840EVO SSD 120GB

That's it. Nothing else. Just one stick of RAM and no PCIe card.

I have tried the "maxmem=4096" as well as the more complicated "-x PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnabler=No maxmem=4096".

I am STILL getting the same error.

Only difference I can see in my error message is that mine says MacOS Version: 13D65.

Anyone know what might be the problem?

Try removing AppleACPIPlatform.kext from /Extra/Extensions on the USB stick.

/Extra is hidden, so use ShowAllFiles to reveal it.

Did not work. I've posted on a near identical thread RE 10.9.3. That's what I'm installing, so I'll go to that thread. Sorry for the duplicate posts.

You may need to remove /Extra/AppleACPIPlatform.kext *in addition* to using maxmem.

FYI: I don't know if it matters for this issue, but I usually remove /Extra/IONetworkingFamily.kext as well.

Thanks, yes. Did that. No love.

OK, made it past the error. Thank you!

To be thorough:

I've deleted AppleACPIPlatform.kext, IONetworkingFamily.kext.

I boot with -x GraphicsEnabler=yes PCIRootUID=0 maxmem=4096

I needed ALL those flags. maxmem alone did not do the trick.
