Hi guys,

I'm definitely new at this. First build ever. Trying to put together a double boot system (Win7 & Mavericks) with separate SSD's.
Specs (everything was bought using the Buyer's Guide):
  • Intel Core i7-4770K
  • Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
  • Corsair Vengeance LP 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800)
  • PNY GTX 770 2GB
  • Corsair Professional Series HX 750
  • SanDisk Extreme SSD 120 GB (in which I'm trying to install Mavs)
  • Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB (in which I already installed Win7)
  • LG Electronics 14x Internal BDXL Blu-Ray Burner Rewriter WH14NS40

When I tried to boot from UniBeast, this is what I got after a few seconds:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xFFFFFF000002526FF): "a freed zone element has been modified: expected 0xdeadbeef'deadbeef" but found 0xdeadbeef88098809; bits changed 0x56a43e6; at offset 48 of 64"@zone: kalloc.64"ë/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422. 90.

Like I mentioned, I already installed Win7 and had no trouble whatsoever, so I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the hardware. I've unplugged all SSD's and HDD's except for the one I'll be using to install the OS in. I also tried to install Mavs with and without the GTX770, running the GraphicsEnabler=Yes, GraphicsEnabler=No, etc. Also, I've tried running it on verbose mode, in which it takes considerably longer to get to the same spot, but it does, in the end.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Check check double check and triple check that you got the bios setting right optimized defaults sata AHCI mode VT-D disabled wol s3 disabled boot with PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=Yes npci=0x3000 and see if it goes only have one ssd plugged in and only have a USB keyboard and mouse plugged in unplug Ethernet and any other hardware use a dvi or hdmi monitor connection

I'm not sure about your issue however I was recently able to finally get to the install screen but you're posting in the wrong forum. This is for succussful installs. You should probably post in Desktop Support for your build type

I've seen this error with the 10.9.2 installer, its not a nice thing to be greeted with for a first timer.

Although I didnt find the exact cause of it, it is most likely memory related. What I did was to pull all of the memory except for one stick, completed the install, and then put the rest of the memory back in.

You could also try using this boot flag : maxmem=4096

Thats not guaranteed to work but may help you.

Also, make sure your memory is correctly configured in your bios. 1600Mhz is the default for Haswell, so make sure you pick the correct XMP Profile so its configured to the right speed and timings.

Darkzeroj is correct btw. Please post any further requests for assistance in the correct forum.

Thank you all! I'll give a try to your suggestions and hope something works.

I'm sorry about posting in the wrong forum.

Thanks again.
Cheers.

No worry, Ive moved the thread to the correct forum.

Let us know how it goes.

graphicsenabler=no -x maxmem=4096 This will solve your problem

Oh, man. Thank you all so much!

I went ahead and checked all of my BIOS settings and they were good. The only thing I couldn't disable was VT-D, which was grayed out. Afterwards, PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=Yes npci=0x3000 didn't work; the same thing would happen.

I was ready to pull out all the other memory sticks, but decided to try
graphicsenabler=no -x maxmem=4096 first, and I believe that's what did it.

As I write this there are 11 minutes remaining on the install... Hoping for the best.

I'll keep you guys posted.

To all of you: Thank you, really! I appreciate the help. Also, big thanks to WonkeyDonkey: I appreciate your patience.

Cheers!

Your welcome :)

Regarding VT-d; it is known to cause issues on a hackintosh and is best left disabled.

Whether you have it or not is totally dependent on your CPU. If it supports VT-d, it will show up in your bios with the option to enable or disable it.

If it does not support VT-d, then quite often you will see it as listed but not supported, and it will be greyed out.

In your case this is correct as the 4770K does NOT support VT-d, so you dont need to worry about this setting. You will only ever see it as greyed out and not selectable.
