Comments:

My late 2008 MacBook Pro 15 inch died a while back so I decided to build a hackintosh to use mainly for audio recording (Logic Pro) and video editing (Final Cut Pro X). This is my 2nd build. My first build (G41M Combo-Q6600) was sort of a test to see if I can actually make Mac OS X run on PC hardware, using some parts scrapped from my old desktop. Thanks to this community, installation was not as difficult as I expected and my first build was problem free though not very powerful. I liked how fast everything was on my 2011 Macbook Air so I decided to use SSD's for my boot drives in this build. Since this machine will be used for recording, I got the Obsidian 550d. Really great case but I may have to upgrade my fans to make it even more quiet.

In my first installation attempt with this system, I tried using a dsdt made for me by a fellow hackintosher. Although this is a UEFI motherboard and dsdt is not necessary, I thought it might help me make use of the unsupported audio chipset, but I ran into more problems with the dsdt, one main issue was no display after sleep. My present installation is DSDT free and everything works including audio (VIA VT2021) and ethernet (AR8161). There are still some very minor issues though, see below.

Multibeast Settings
Multibeast settings.jpg

Everything works including:

1. Boot from HDD (boot time from chimera to desktop is around 9 secs). Dual boot with Windows 7 on a separate ssd

2. Audio (green port at the back and front, VIA 2021 chipset) - using Voodoo 0.2.7.3 from Multibeast 5.1.3. Very stable, no kernel panics, no boot errors, no popping sounds during playback

3. Ethernet (AR 8161) - I'm using Shailua's Experimental Atheros AR81(31/32/51/52/61/62/71/72) Driver for 10.7/10.8. Works great, no login problems with appstore and iTunes. I cloned over 100gb of data from my HDD to a network drive, no hiccups and connection was stable. Get the kext from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/to...heros-ar813132515261627172-driver-for-107108/
ETHERNET.png
UPDATE: this kext is now included in the latest version of Multibeast (v5.2)

4. USB 3.0
USB.png

5. Sleep and wake
a. Forced sleep from Apple Icon>Sleep works. External hard drives and USB keyboard are force ejected upon sleep command, install jettison app to fix issue
b. Timed Sleep does not work - only display sleeps but not the system. Use PleaseSleep app to use timed sleep.
UPDATE: I discovered that it's my DVD drive that's stopping the system from sleeping. I unplugged the thing from the mobo and timed sleep does work, in a weird way though. If I set display to sleep after 1 minute, and computer to sleep after 2 minutes, the display sleeps on time while the system sleeps only after 6mins 30secs. Will have to find a fix for this.

6. Better p-states using cosmicjoke's patched_10.8_IOplatformPluginFamily.kext.zip. See post #936 on http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/43486-asus-1155-patched-bios-repository.html#post500626
P states.png

7. Asus GT 640 works OOB - change entry in org.chameleon.Boot.plist to GraphicsEnabler=No
GT 640.png

8. Geekbench Score - 13500 +/-
UPDATE: OC'd to 4.2 Ghz, with the CPU Vcore at Auto (max reading is 1.27V) Geekbench score improved to 14,500 +/-

Issues:

1. "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller" - I've read a couple of posts that can fix this, but this is purely cosmetic and is not a big deal for me.
Serial-ATA.png
UPDATE: Quick fix by installing AHCISeries7Injector.kext using kextbeast. See post no. 1 of this thread: link

2. When I install Fake SMC and Fake SMC plugins with multibeast, the system hangs on Apple logo on boot. What I did was I installed the plug-ins kexts separately using KextBeast, and then Hardware Monitor App using multibeast. No more hang on Apple logo.
HW Monitor.png
UPDATE: FakeSMC from Multibeast 5.2 solves this problem. No more issues with the plugins causing hang on apple logo.

3. While Startech FireWire PCIe Card works great with Logic Pro, it messes up my Sleep/Wake/Shutdown/Restart. System won't sleep nor shutdown (restarts immediately). My workaround now is I remove the card when I am not recording, or when it is installed, I restart to my windows partition and then shutdown from there. This is a known issue with Gigabyte UEFI motherboards but I'm hopeful there will be a fix soon. I tested the same card on my previous build (G41M Combo - Q6600) without any issues. See http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-h...hutdown-restart-issues-thread.html#post484355

Overall, this is a very fast and very stable build. Many thanks to everybody in the Tonymacx86 community for all the help and support.

jeff's MacPro Build: Core i7-3770k - GA-Z77-D3H - 8GB RAM - GT640

Updates:

1. timed sleep now works. It was my DVD drive that's preventing sleep.
2. Better FakeSMC from the newest version of Multibeast.
3. OC'd to 4.2 ghz and system is stable so far. Geekbench score of 14,500 +/-
4. Fixed the "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller" by installing the AHCISeries7Injector.kext using kextbeast.

How did you get mountain lion installed! I have snow leopard 10.6.7 and cannot get the ONBOARD LAN to work, so how can i update to ML without working ONboard lan? I have tried installing all the Kexts from ALXethernet (atheros) kexts, none of them work with snow leopard, every single version i uninstall the kexts manually through the use of the terminal then clear all the caches and then use kextbeast to reinstall them. I dont know what to do

It seems Shailuah is/was also working on a kext for 10.6/10.7 and he has gotten this kext to work on SL, although on a different chipset. You better give feedback directly to Shailua at the thread I mentioned in my original post, and hope he can help.

Alternatively, if you can get the tplink wdn4800 somewhere with a good return policy, it will work oob with SL. After you download mountain lion, you can return it, or just keep it to use on a 2nd build maybe?

I'm loving this case too. If you look in my lammergeier build I've done some work with the fans on mine.

Yup, really elegant looking case, but as you mentioned in your post, noise does escape. I upgraded my CPU cooler to noctua nhd14, and case fans to noctuas. I didn't have to use the low noise adapters though, since fan speed can be controlled through the BIOS settings. At 4.2 ghz, my max temps under load are around 72 degrees celcius, and idles at 30-40 degrees celcius (I live in hot and humid Singapore!) good enough trade off since I'm running the fans really quiet at low speed.

Thanks for the reply, i really really appreciate the fact that im not alone in this enigma. I did however already send an order in for a purchase on the wdn4800, lol funny u mentioned it. I am still a bit puzzled on how you have the same exact board and revision that i do and have ML installed how did you get that far? My board is the GA-Z77-D3H rev. 1.1 just like yours.:?:

Well I have two other Macs at home, 2011macbook air and 2012 MacBook pro, both on 10.7.5, so I just downloaded ML from my mac appstore. The wdn 4800 is a good buy, I always get full 450mbps speeds, nice to have.

I just got my TP ling TL-WDN 4800 and of course you guessed it i did a fresh install of SL and disabled the onboard lan and i have no wireless option, nothing is working once again.I can get into the OS no problem but no network at all, im getting extremely frustrated, i cant connect at all. I have the GA-z77-D3H just like you, what am i doing wrong?

I'm not really sure how to help you but you can try the following steps:

1. Go to System Preferences/Network and delete any existing connections by selecting any existing connections and clicking minus (-) sign at the bottom left.
2.
Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete NetworkInterfaces.plist
3. Restart
4. If the system doesn't connect to the internet automatically after restart, go back to
System Preferences/Network, click the plus (+) sign at the bottom left to create a new connection and select "wifi" for the interface.

Are you on 10.6.3, 10.6.4 or have you
updated to 10.6.8 already? if it doesn't work on 10.6.3-4 then you might have to update to 10.6.8 first, download the 10.6.8 combo update here (i hope you have another computer with a working internet).

Check also that your WDN4800 is installed properly. Is it identified properly when you go to about this mac/more info/system report/Network/wifi?

Hope this help. Anybody else who can help, please chime in.
