Comments on Components.

• With the exception to the video card, this computer was a full-fledged Windows 8 machine.
• I had taken a shot at hackintoshing before, but only on my AMD rigs. Figured I might get lucky with this one, and I did!
• Originally had the NVidia 550ti, which worked great while using iMac or MacPro credentials, but speedstep (P-states) for the CPU were 1.6Ghz, 3.4Ghz, 3.6Ghz, and 3.8Ghz instead of the full range that the Macmini credentialed p-states give. However, on Macmini 6,1 or 6,2 credentials, the video card refused to play nicely with any video files played in Quicktime. Youtube, iTunes Visualizer, and Acceleration all worked fine - just not quicktime. (Green distorted craziness).
• No piece of equipment was subjected to model/make specifics; As mentioned before, all parts were being used for Windows 8.
• Suggestion: Please don't use the FERMI video cards. They cause nightmares.

Comments on Build

• The keyboard looks and works great, but get one that has Mac specific drivers available, since this one does not. (Enter key near numpad does nothing...)
• The video card requires you to pull out the hard drive bay extension that goes inside. You can still fit 2x 3.5" drives, and 5 2.5" drives without it, but something to note.
• I don't have Bluetooth in this build, but would love to have it. I will keep my eyes open to suggestions below for these things.
• The total cost of the machine at the time of purchases was a total just shy of $500. Without sales and coupons, and assuming you get the same heatsink and case, it will likely cost between $500 and $600 for this build today.

Installation

• There is some minor Kext editing, but nothing we can't handle! I will provide baby-step guides below since I know I wish somebody would have held my hand while doing these things myself.

MultiBeast Configuration for Mavericks

*Note: The required DSDT is located below as a download. This is required to make sure your motherboard's USB 3.0 slots function when a USB 2.0 device is inserted.​

Helpful notes regarding installation:

AUDIO MINI-TUTORIAL*

(If you get hangups during boot because of VoodooHDA, follow below (after booting with the safeboot parameter '-x' (no quotes)).
The same steps can be used for VooDooHDA2.7.3, but 2.8.4 has the ability to push audio via HDMI, while 2.7.3 does not. Thus 2.8.4 is preferred.

STEP 1: Grab the "system info" program from here: Download
STEP 2: When running it, click the "Devices Tab" (should be there by default). Find the "High Definition Audio Controller" (not the one associated with your video card if you have a video card), and locate the Ven ID and Dev ID, as displayed below:

STEP 3: Once you have those two items, you'll copy VoodooHDA2.8.4.kext (from OSX/System/Library/Extensions) to your desktop. Right click the desktop copy, and show package contents. Navigate to the Contents/info.plist file and open it in whatever you want (I used text wrangler, but textedit will work).
STEP 4: Baby steps now...

In the above screenshot, you will see two lines of highlighted orange code. If these two lines don't exist, add them. If they do exist, edit them. Can you see that the DevID goes first, and the VenID goes second? Pretty cool, eh?

My edited/added two lines of code look like this:

NOTE: Don't necessarily copy my code, just use it as a reference; unless you have the exact same setup, your hardware in your own build will change what the Dev and Ven IDs actually are. See my signature for my specific build).

STEP 4.5: EnableVolumeChanger.

This subtle false-to-true change makes it so that not only your volume will work, but that the volume rocker (whether on your keyboard, or the volume icon) will actually change the volume of the audio instead of be a constant level.

STEP 5: Save the info.plist edits (As long as you followed directions for copying to your desktop, you wont get any crazy errors here). Now, open up Kext Wizard (download it if you don't have this already), and go to the "Installation" tab. Drag your newly edited kext file from the desktop into the window.

Install. (The default location of System/Library/Extensions is correct).

Go back to maintenance, and repair both permissions and cache for good measure.

Restart.

Behold your brilliance! (and report back any issues or changes that need to take place here that I may have overlooked).

Thanks! Everything is working perfectly with one exception: Sleep.

Sleep requires a modified BIOS. Most of these Asus boards come with a magic 'button' near a USB port, which, when pushed, will flash your bios with a modded one that is on a jump drive. The P8H77-I doesn't have that button.

If anyone has input for the P8H77-I and sleep, I'm all ears, and will add it to the post + credit you.

I have the same setup P8h77i . i5 3570k
but using sapphire 6870

I have been using MT with all functions,
modified bt kex ( Ultron UBA-130 Micro V3)
modified kex / dsdt ( audio pass from 6870 DP using the easy guide ) - but seems that the new voodoo does it now on hdmi , any idea if it works on DP ?

initially after installing MT sleep doesn't work, it will fall into a deep sleep that needs a reboot to wake up.
after getting a modified bios from samisnake in January (P8H77-I-ASUS-0904_modified), sleeps works !

although there are new bios versions for this MB (samisnake might have the latest one now) .

I'm still using 0904 + MT going to update to Mavericks soon. (worried over loosing audio via DP , and i totally forgot how i made it work)
