I know it is an old OS, but I'm working with an '09 macbook pro and attempting to complete a Hackintosh and do not have immediate access to a more current OS. I have made a boot flash drive with El Capitan that seems to function as I have used it on a hard drive and an SSD without issue but I couldn't get my tower to take the drive. It seemed to try and I even got a flash of the Apple logo but the computer would just restart. I'm unsure what I did (maybe in BIOS) but now the tower does not even recognize the boot drive in multiple USB ports.

I went back through everything in my tower compared to the buying guid on this site and noticed that the i5 8500 that I bought is not listed here but the 8400 and 8600K are. Could this be the root of all of my problems?

@inclined, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard, CPU and iGPU or Graphics Card(s).
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard.
The Rules said:
Profiles are mandatory so that others can assist you.

Coffee Lake hardware is not supported on El Capitan.
You will need macOS High Sierra 10.13.0 or higher.

@BreBo, thank you for the information and help
