Comments:

My build is mostly complete except that I am looking for the Z77 motherboard I could add, that would be the easiest to install Mac OS X Mountain Lion on and would be fully functional (audio, sleep/wake, etc..). My build is mostly oriented toward gaming and video editing. I want to install use Windows 7 on one SSD for gaming and then install and use OS X Mountain Lion on the other SSD mostly to use apple's amazing softwares.
Does anyone have knowledge if it is possible to overclock the GeForce GTX 670 while running OS X Mountain Lion or is it likely to cause problems? I know Nvidia graphic cards tend to run hot and overclocking them requires appropriate cooling.

Will this build be compatible for a smooth OS X Mountain Lion install?

I would greatly appreciate suggestions and comments about this build, and any help people are willing to give.

The GA Z77X UD5H is good and fully functional and if you want thunderbolt get the ga z77x up4 or up5.

You can't overclock gpus in OS X.

Also 850W is way overkill. 600W will be plenty.

I was reading that there is known issues with the USB 3.0 and 2.0 not being able to accept the USB drive to install Mac OS X or Windows. Have you experienced something different? Do you have conflicting information on that?

Also the 850W is for future expansion of more SSD, memory, and an eventual graphic card upgrade toward GTX 690 possibly.

Thank you for your help!

Still no point getting a huge power supply. SSDs and ram hardly use any power and the GTX 690 is not supported.

I read here on these forums, that the GTX 690 works perfectly Out Of the Box for Mac OS X. I think I saw two discrete post about it.

Nevertheless, I'll consider downgrading the power supply to save a little bit of money for sure. Thanks for the advice!

I decided to order the GA-Z77X-UD5H after reading replies and other forum threads.

Now my next concern will be to figure out if I will be able to overclock my i5 3570k and my GeForce GTX 670 while using Mac OS X.

Yes you will be able to overclock. It doesn't matter which OS you are running because all overclocking is done in the BIOS. Just make sure you get a good CPU cooler like the Coolermaster hyper 212+.

Okay. So if I understand correctly, on a "Hackintosh", it is possible to overclock the CPU but not the GPUs? If I overclock the GPU what will happen in OS X? Will the whole system fail or will the Graphic card GPU run at retail clock value? I kind of find this matter really interesting!

cpu overclocking is handled by the bios, so its os independent.
most of the time, gpu overclocking is handled by software which overclocks the card at the time the os loads.

you cant use that method of overclocking in osx, as the software isnt available, but you can in windows.
you could alter the clocks/voltage of the bios so that the overclock is permanent, but would you want to do that?

Interesting! That is great news because I wanted to overclock my GPU to play video games under Windows anyway. So from what I understand I'll be able to overclock it through the software on windows but still be able to have a stable GPU under OS X. Very good news!
