Can anyone tell me if the R9 280X is still the recommended card for video editing in Final Cut Pro X? If so, can someone please send me a link of exactly what brand/version they would recommend? I will be editing mainly 4K video and have concerns that there isn't a 6gb version. Is the 3gb sufficient? Any advice would be super helpful. Thanks!

I don't really have an answer and basically came here with the same question. But I can tell you that the Gigabyte 7970 (same thing as a R9 280) works out of the box and reliably in my El Capitan hack and I get a BruceX benchmark of 16 seconds (without h264 encoding). Still lust for more power though, hence my interest in the question :)

Right now there has been a couple of improvements with a new kext that has been released, called "WhateverGreen". It fixes a number of issues with AMD cards, including the RX 480, which is a much better card for FC X than the R9 280X. You can read about it in the last pages of these threads:

i have rx vega frontier edition which works with high Sierra beta. RX vega cards are the lastest that are supported.

Hi, so I'm running currently 2 X R9 270X cards for fcpx which have been working great but I'm thinking of upgrading to 1 X RX 570 8GB.

I'm now using Mojave but wondering if its worth the hassel of upgrading?

Many thanks,

Alex
