Hi.
If anyone is interested to get two DVI Dual Support working, there is a nice solution for any 6850 VGA Card.
First of all, you need to understand what ATI Config as Bootflag does.
OS X Lion Drivers have different ATI Configs which did not always match your 6850 ATI Card.
I am using Lion 10.7.3 with Sapphire ATI Radeon 6850 1GB and only two ATI Configs work with my DVI Output but only with one Monitor. My Card has four Outputs(Two DVI, one HDMI and Display Port).
Without GraphicsEnabler OSX works fine with acceleration, dual Monitor support but my 6850 is listed as 6xxx Card and Steam does not work.
So, i copied the ati6000controller file from s/l/e and made a Backup Copy on the Desktop.
Then i used a hex editor and opened the kext file inside ati6000controller file.
You jump to the offset in decimal at 176800
There we got the Duckweed config, which i choosed to make it match to the sapphire 6850 1GB.
in Hex View you should see:
00 04 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 04 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02
00 08 00 00 04 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 11 02 03 04
00 02 00 00 14 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 06 05
but this config does not match my card, but one DVI works somehow, but the parameters are totally wrong.
So i patched the file:
04 00 00 00 14 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 06 05
04 00 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 11 02 03 06
00 08 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 02 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02
Now my upper DVI Port is my Mainport and the lower is my second port and dual Monitoring via DVI works fine. Steam works fine. Perfomance is fine, even played Diablo 3 Beta at 1920 without any glitches.
After patching the file in s/l/e directory you should edit your Bootfile or start Chameleon and ADD GraphicsEnabler=Yes, ATI Config=Duckweed and ATI Ports=4
Then you must correct the permissions for you patch file. Easy Tool is Kext Utility
Two informations:
I'm working to get Hdmi and Displayport working, my config is only for both DVI outputs working with the Sapphire 6850 1GB.
I tried the HDMi Port and i dont get output. I will check this later today and will patch these two wrong settings:
00 08 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 02 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02
If you have questions, i can search for the Link where you can extract your bios file and find the correct settings to patch the config which fits perfectly with your 6850, as long as your 6850 works.
