Is Radeon HD 6850 Supported in Lion?

ok! Well that worked. AT least for one DVI and one HDMI. I don't have a display port cable, so I haven't tried it.

I noticed I get an "EBIOS read error Device Timeout". after 4 tries it gives up and just continues booting up.

Since you seem to know this setup, sleep is a little iffy too. It seems like it wakes up, but non of the peripherals work, no Monitor, mouse, keyboard, USB hard drives, etc. But if I Screen share, the computer is awake and waiting for my password. If I unplug things ad replug them , everything is fine.

Well that's great! Dvi and HDMI is my setup. Re ebios error - generally caused by a western digital external drive Passport. Sometimes I get it on my internal drive which is also an WD

Sleep causing disconnected peripherals is also a well documented problem. See After install forums for details or just search for sleep and USB!

All the best

I need help, I have gigabyte radeon 6850 and everytime I boot without PCIRootUID=0 theres no signal in the DVI-d which is the only cable and monitor I Have hooked up

Now I tried your method and I added to the Chamelleonboot.plist

<key>AtiConfig<key>
<string>Bulrushes</string>
<key>AtiPorts</key>
<string>4</string>

Having Graphic Enabled = Yes also and same problem, no signal

But if I manually add it as a boot flag on chimera when booting up

AtiConfig=Bulrushes,AtiPorts=4,GraphicsEnabler=Yes

and press enter to boot it boots up fine, the only problem being that the card is recognize as Radeon 6xxx series and geekbench crashes please any help?

I'm running Lion 7.0

!!!Solved!!!!

Got it Working the problem is you have to be at least on 10.7.2, ( I just upgraded to 10.7.3 and all working )

Hi.

If anyone is interested to get two DVI Dual Support working, there is a nice solution for any 6850 VGA Card.

First of all, you need to understand what ATI Config as Bootflag does.

OS X Lion Drivers have different ATI Configs which did not always match your 6850 ATI Card.

I am using Lion 10.7.3 with Sapphire ATI Radeon 6850 1GB and only two ATI Configs work with my DVI Output but only with one Monitor. My Card has four Outputs(Two DVI, one HDMI and Display Port).

Without GraphicsEnabler OSX works fine with acceleration, dual Monitor support but my 6850 is listed as 6xxx Card and Steam does not work.

So, i copied the ati6000controller file from s/l/e and made a Backup Copy on the Desktop.

Then i used a hex editor and opened the kext file inside ati6000controller file.

You jump to the offset in decimal at 176800

There we got the Duckweed config, which i choosed to make it match to the sapphire 6850 1GB.

in Hex View you should see:

00 04 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 04 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02
00 08 00 00 04 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 11 02 03 04
00 02 00 00 14 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 06 05

but this config does not match my card, but one DVI works somehow, but the parameters are totally wrong.

So i patched the file:

04 00 00 00 14 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 06 05
04 00 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 11 02 03 06
00 08 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 02 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02

Now my upper DVI Port is my Mainport and the lower is my second port and dual Monitoring via DVI works fine. Steam works fine. Perfomance is fine, even played Diablo 3 Beta at 1920 without any glitches.

After patching the file in s/l/e directory you should edit your Bootfile or start Chameleon and ADD GraphicsEnabler=Yes, ATI Config=Duckweed and ATI Ports=4

Then you must correct the permissions for you patch file. Easy Tool is Kext Utility

Two informations:

I'm working to get Hdmi and Displayport working, my config is only for both DVI outputs working with the Sapphire 6850 1GB.

I tried the HDMi Port and i dont get output. I will check this later today and will patch these two wrong settings:

00 08 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 12 04 04 01
00 02 00 00 04 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 22 05 05 02

If you have questions, i can search for the Link where you can extract your bios file and find the correct settings to patch the config which fits perfectly with your 6850, as long as your 6850 works.

So grateful for your tip. I've read this thread a half dozen times but was still too n00b to figure out what it all meant. Duckweed was always my correct framebuffer, but with GraphicsEnabler=No everything but DVD player worked. So I wasn't really sweatin it. Steam and Cinebench always worked with GE=no. But the card ID'd as 6xxx.

However my Cinebench scores are the same with or without it. 43 FPS, and Cinebench still IDs the card as Barts Pro Prototype.

Running W7 my Cinebench score is 65 FPS.

Now my already stable system IDs the card correct and works 100% like the real thing in every aspect. Using dual DVI with GE=Yes never worked before your tip.

Well done sir.

Thank you.

What about this one? It is the XFX HD-685X-ZCFC Radeon HD 6850 1GB. Does anyone have this one running fully in their build?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150573

I have already using this card and didn't work with Snow Leopard.
No wonders, SL doesn't have drivers for 6XXX.

I am Noob on mac systems but i have also tried a kext about 6xxx which is made by Alexander Martinez' for xfx 6850.and it didn't give me a result.

is there any solution about xfx 6850 (1 fan model)??
