Hi all,

I have a Rosewill USB 3.0 internal card reader (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820223119) installed in my hackintosh, and its 19-pin USB 3.0 connector is connected to the appropriate header on my Asus X79 Deluxe Motherboard. The card reader works fine before the computer is put to sleep, but after sleeping and waking, the card reader no longer works. Normally, there is a blue indicator light that is always illuminated (I'm assuming it's a power indicator; there is a separate green activity indicator), and turns off upon sleeping. Upon waking, the blue light blinks once then goes out, and the card reader no longer functions.

The same thing happens whether I'm using the Jettison app or not. Any cards that are plugged into the reader before sleep are still visible as drives after sleep, but if I actually navigate in them and try to open a file, Finder hangs and has to be restarted. If there are no cards in the reader when it's put to sleep, then no new cards will appear in Finder if they are inserted after wake.

This problem does not occur in Windows on my machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

A few more things:

  • Disabling Internal PLL Overvoltage (as suggested at the end of this thread) doesn't solve the problem
  • In my Asus X79 Deluxe BIOS I can also specify that the various drives of the card reader be treated as hard drives, floppies, "Forced FDD", or CD-ROMs, and none of those options solve the problem, either
  • Even after sleep, when the card reader is unresponsive, it still appears in System Information under USB Hardware, and it's still there even after I select Refresh Information
  • The card reader has a USB 3.0 port on the front, and even when the card reader is unresponsive, the port still seems to charge devices connected to it

Again, any help would be much appreciated!

SOLVED (for me, at least):

Using the -gux_nosleep bootflag solved my problem. After more searching, I found these threads:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/122201-usb-3-0-does-not-work-after-wake-sleep-10-9-1-a.html

http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-h...er-wake-sleep-10-9-using-ga-z68x-ud3h-b3.html

I'm still not entirely sure what -gux_nosleep does, but it works. Using the Jettison app also gets rid of the improper ejection messages upon wake.

Also, interestingly, the USB 3.0 card reader worked fine after wake from sleep without the bootflag if I used a 19-pin USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 header adapter cable (I was just testing things out, and this got me to search more about USB 3.0).
