Just heard today that Intel’s CEO Bob Swan has been replaced after 2 years at the job by Intel chip veteran of 30-years and original 80486 architecture designer Pat Gelsinger. He is also the current CEO of VMWare, so this should bring good news to VMWare users!

Good to hear they got rid of a Finance leader and installed a Tech leader. When you are in the tech business you need a tech leader, not some asshole who has a business degree. Anyone can get a MBA.

re-reading the release, gets less exciting
architect frm a backward, outdated era
most manufacturers on x86 platform (Intel/AMD) are frm asia/ROC
AMD holding the edge seems to stem frm direct asian connections

It not about him coming up with new ideas it is about him understanding the dynamic of how to force innovation. When a Tech Firm is run by a Finance Leader the stockholders get all the profits and the tech lags behind "currently intel". When a Tech Firm is run by a Techie RND gets all the profits until said Tech Frim is back on top then profits grow and stockholders get paid. Intel is just not spending the capital to be innovators hopefully with this new guy they will again.

So Pat Gelsinger is finally back in the hot seat! And it looks like he isn't resting on its laurels when he announced to his new team they need to 'be the leader in every field they compete'.

One thing we may have also missed from his recent appointment is that a number of former Intel engineers are also joining his team - some out of retirement - the most recent which includes industry heavyweight Glenn Hinton who has been with Intel for 35 years and was a chief architect behind P6, Pentium 4 and Nehalem. > https://www.anandtech.com/show/16438/new-intel-ceo-making-waves-rehiring-retired-cpu-architects
