intel Xeon cpu in desktop motherboard

Can a xeon cpu be put in a desktop motherboard if the cpu socket is the same?

I want to use the Xeon E5-2699 v3 18-core processor for my computer.

I just tested a 2699 v3 in Rampage V Extreme with Crucial's 2133MHz ECC memory and it worked without any tweaking. I haven't been able to create a hackintosh with it just yet though, but I can report that the said Xeon does work on my RVE with 1401 BIOS.
