In another surprise, an Intel Linux engineer has confirmed that Intel's next gen Xeon 'Sapphire Rapids' chip uses Golden Cove cores (ie. big/little performance/efficiency cores) and will feature at least 80 of them in the specification. Intel previously had never mentioned this in their announcement last year, and led others to assume Willow Cove was used in the Xeon design when it was not the case. The Golden Cove client variant is also used in Alder Lake S, which is the expected replacement for Rocket Lake S, but will feature only 8 of the Golden Cove chips and 8 of the 'Gracemont' high efficiency cores.
