If you need more cores/threads but don't overclock, this is an awesome deal. Here in 2021 it seems that everything AMD, CPUs or Graphics cards, is either out of stock or way overpriced. Nice to be able to buy these below retail. If you edit videos or photos with your hackintosh this is a great CPU for your system. 16 threads available for rendering video is really nice to have. May be the last gen Intel CPU that lets you use Intel integrated graphics too.

The 11th gen i7-11700 has the same number of cores, the igfx don't work and it's base clock is lower.
It also costs $90 more than what the i7-10700 sells for today. Easy decision to make the 10th gen choice.

The Ryzen 7 3700X is about the equivalent AMD CPU and it's selling for $320 right now. Even though it's not the latest gen ryzen. The Intel 10700 has a significantly higher (400 MHz) turbo boost clock speed (4.80 GHz) too. The Ryzen 7 does come with a Wraith Prism cooler but it's generally not adequate if you are doing anything CPU intensive such as gaming, rendering video or live streaming. So you'll have to buy your own CPU cooler anyway.

If you want to know why it's a waste of money to spend more for K series Intel CPUs (that also need more expensive cooling) then have a look at this video from Tech Deals. Are K chips Worth it ?


Spoiler Alert: They used to be "worth it" around 8-9 years ago but not today.
