Hello,

I am trying to install OS X on my PC which currently runs Windows 7, and I have created a partition alongside Windows in which to install Mavericks on.

I understand that to install OS X, it requires a GUID partitioned drive, however, I have applied the MBR patch so that it can be installed on a machine with Master Boot Record partitioning.

However, every time I try to format my designated partition, it comes up with an error stating that the "Partition map could not be modified" (or something like that, I cannot remember it word-for-word unfortunately). If I go to the Partitions tab in the installation, the options for each of the partitions are greyed-out.

Anyone know how I can install it on the same hard drive as an already-present copy of Windows?

Thanks

Installing on MBR is not supported here. Read the rules: http://www.tonymacx86.com/faq.php

If you wish to dual-boot, see this guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/multi-booting/96000-guide-dual-booting-mountain-lion-windows-8-a.html

(involves re-installing Windows after repartitioning as GPT [actually hybrid GPT/MBR])

I know that this is a fairly old thread.

I read the rules, I don't see any thing about MBR not being supported.

Does this rule apply however? :
AMD nor Atom CPUs and NVIDIA, ATI, VIA or SIS desktop chipsets are not supported by the methods and software on this site and will not work. Any post requesting help for or asking about these will be deleted.

I am trying to do the same (quad boot Win 8.1/10, Ubuntu 14.04, and OSX 10.9.5

I think this is the rule he was talking about:

Any use, discussion, links to or mentions of a pre-built VM, t*****t, distribution, downloaded, copied, cloned, hacked or modified installer of the operating system

hacked or modified installer of the operating system = MBR patched installer
