Eelhead - you TOTALLY ROCK!! My MM tray should be here early next week so I can start my G5 case mod project. This particular topic was my biggest concern/worry, as I didn't see any sort of template/guide in the MM instructions on how to position everything.

The only difference between your placement of the tray & my mod is that I'm not going to re-purpose the G5's original power supply case (filling it with updated components from a new PS). I'm actually going to use MacTester57's approach and put the PS where the original 2-bay HD cage was.

So as part of my due-diligence of "measure twice, cut once," I thought I would seek your input: I would simply apply the principals you provide here, but with the tray assembly simply positioned lower in the case...yes? Similar to this (highlighted in green):

Yeah you can position the try up or down anyway you want. It would be better to lower out the tray if your not going to utilize the G5 PSU and you remount on the top, that way you remove the power plug opening. If your really good you can reuse the power plug opening on the top by metal working it back in :)

I have a question about how much to trim off the side of the back panel of the G5. If you leave a slight flange of G5 metal so that the MM tray can cover it, when you bolt on the MM Tray piece with the slots in it, it will contact the top part of the MM rear panel, but sandwich the G5 metal at the side/bottom, and be slightly out of alignment (1/8"). Any idea how to resolve this and restore the alignment of the slot piece?

Basically when I did mine, I filed it down until there were no holes on that edge. Does that make sense? I was using the long standoffs and that height was perfect for me. The lip of the board sits perfectly flush on the little lip of the filed case.

So the G5 case metal sat below the flange on the MM tray's vertical slot piece?

The only issue, is that there isn't any connection from the MM Tray to the G5 case all along that edge. Having said that, it's not really turning out to be an issue as that part of the case is very ridgid.

The rear IO plate holds the motherboard tray in place at the back section there, the rear IO place screws to the mobo tray and then the back of the G5 so there is no need for the mobo tray to connect to the case at the rear section, the IO plate does this.
