Sadly, Gigabyte BIOS barely has any TB3 options. Asus has far more advanced options and features. Hot plugging has not worked so far but if I boot with my UAD apollo on, I can now turn it off. and still reconnect again so this is definitely a step in the right direction. Really curious to see how this project turns out. I'm hoping there has been some progress made since 2018? Can OP give some insight on the progress of the project? Thanks in advance guys.

have you guys ever had this strange problem?

:: UAD Apollo x8 TH3 connected to a CG-Titan Ridge and correctly recognised from the system (Mojave 10.14.6) with last version of UAD software (9110), hot plug correctly working when both devices (PC and UAD) are on. In System Pref UAD is listed correctly under Audio devices and Thunderbolt correctly listed under System Report (PCI devices section), but no audio comes out from the UAD at all !!! Even playing a song with iTunes is impossible, iTunes does not start !!!

It really drives me nut!

For me if I load SSDT-TB3.aml and plug in the eGPU (Razer Core X + RX590) the system instantly crashes with this exception:

Without plugged-in devices the TB controller is recognized correctly. Some people report that on the same machine - Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 6 (same bios/NVM version, everything works including Hotplug). Any pointers?

It seems the issue is in kext.AMDFramebuffer. Tested with different GPUs (all of those work on a real MBP, so not the GPU)

The crash happens after the GPU is detected and the respective kext is loaded.
This is likely a TB3 issue because:

  • the GPU works without issues if we bypass the TB3.aml
  • On windows all the GPUs work fine
  • The crash happens on framebuffer load after connection (? port reset?)

Sorry for double-posting, but I think there is some new info on the eGPU case.
With TB3 v1 I was able to get a more verbose trace and was wondering if @RehabMan or someone with in-depth kext knowledge can look into it. We might be missing something simple.

Can anybody help?
I have an issue with the Asus Prime Z390-A board trying to boot MacOS using both Gigabyte Titan Ridge and Asus ThunderboltEX cards.
Basically right after Clover I get a stop sign.
Above 4G decoding is enabled in bios. The card is on SLOT PCIX16_3 (it can only fit in there.

One or twice using the Asus card the system booted. Once it booted the Thunderbolt device was seen and the SSDT was implemented.
My issue is the system doesn't boot consistently with the card installed. If I remove the card the system runs well.

Anybody can help?

*Update*
Found.
The Asus Prime Z390-A only when inserted aThunderbolt 3 card requires the boot argument slide=0 to be able to boot and then the flag "Halt Enabler" to bo able to shut down properly.
Lost a bunch of hours to make it run.

same configuration and I agree with slide=0 parameter but never need the flag "Halt Enabler" , are you sure everything is configured properly? Can you share your EFI? do you have EmuEfiV
ariable.UEFI properly installed? Z390 does Not have NVRAM hardware enable.

It is the presence of the Thunderbolt 3 cards that leads to a reboot when you do a Shut Down. To avoid that you have to use Halt Enabler. Without the Thunderbolt 3 card the system shuts down properly.

Quick questions guys, after I modified the SSDT-TB3.aml file in the first post and save it, what do I do with it? Where am I supposed to place it? Really new to this. Thanks

OK, but I was just talking of the system with TH3 card onboard... never used Halt Enabler.

My problems are of different nature: sometimes system becomes really slow or TH3 card disappear completely from System Resources... I don't know why...

I'm not experiencing that.
Thunderbolt is consistently showing up and the system behaves normally.

I'm using Gigabyte Alpine Ridge card. Once I do shut down the system bounces back and switches on again. I've read some other user have the same issue. Halt Enabler solved it.
