Many many thanks to LeleTuratti !

Var. B) of METHOD 1 worked for me in the most awesome way.
I can turn on and off my Apollo Twin (silverface) multiple times even if I boot with my interface disconnected.

macOS Sierra 10.12.4
Gigabyte GA-Z270X-UD5
BIOS version F6d
Thunderbolt Firmware 23+ TI 3.0.5 (as it mentioned at gigabyte's site)
Thunderbolt Driver for Windows 10 v17.2.71.250
Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter
Apollo Twin DUO
UAD Powered Plug-Ins 9.5.2 05-02-2018 build 617969

A few weeks ago, i just send a request to ASRock for their latest Thunderbolt3 Firmware for Z270 Super Carrier.
Today i received an eMail with the latest Firmware file: it is Rev. NVM33. Just installed it and it is fine.

I have attached it here for those of you, who else running ASRock Z270 Super Carrier.

That’s great, I’ll try var. B when I get back from work.

Enquiring if anyone knows about the compatibility of the ASRock Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard, which is a mITX board (the only one possibly) that has integrated Thunderbolt 3.
Thanks a lot.

Out of curiosity, has anyone with a non-X299 system with an AIC tried using it in x16 slot 2 (dropping the graphics card to x8) but putting the TB Card on the cpu lanes to see if that enables hot swap?

Thinking of trying it with an x370 build (if I win an 8086K that is ;) )

Tested with 8x slot (PCH lanes) some time ago without success, the TB card is not seen by the system

That’s interesting, why was the 8x on the PCH? If you split the 16x into 2-8x, don’t both cards end up on the CPU?

Because I did not remove the video card, and the 16 lines of the CPU were busy.
If I remember correctly, someone had tried in the past, but in chipsets different from X299 the PCI-TB card only works in the slot designated for it (4x)
