Comments

This is my second hackingtosh build. I basically did the first one to find out how it was working. The first one was based on an Asus P8z68-V Pro/gen 3 MB and an i5-2500K. It worked out quite well. So I decided to build a more UpToDate machine for my day to day use. (I do own 5 genuine Macs, also.)

For the software installation I did a lot of research all over the internet, but pretty much ended up following the great Golden Build guide of @CaseySJ that can be found here:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-gigabyte-designare-z390-thunderbolt-3-i7-9700k-amd-rx-580.267551/

As the software of my build is close to his build, I found a lot of tips on how to prepare the BIOS, and what kexts to use to get everything working.

I prefer to keep my system stable, and I also need to have access to some older software. So I choose to stay on Mojave for now.

Videos of the builds process:

Part1: The Case conversion

Part 2: The components

Part 3:The build of the pc

Part 4: Load an temperatures

Part 5: The benchmarks

Things that are working:

  • Wifi, Bluetooth, Handoff, Airdrop via added Fenvi ethernet card.
  • Imessage, Quicklook, Preview, facetime, Appstore
  • Both Onboard Ethernet
  • Dual Monitors with accelerated video from RX 570
  • All USB
  • On board Audio
  • Trim on both SSD drives NVME and SATA

wauw, very impressive, and really well explained, good videos, it looks like quite a lot of work, I did the lazy version 1 year ago, without cutting the case and a mATX board, but I might pick up another powermac G5 case to put new components in.

Another good example of using the G5 case, lots of space for different layouts and configurations. I think this is why its so popular among Modders, you can build unique systems to suit your requirements. @Mikkmakk66 your case looks similar to mine, is it the 2004 version?.

Hi

My case is the 2005 version, the exact model:

And in my opinion : Even it is more 15 years old , the case is still very solid and good looking:)

I agree!. A really solid case and very good looking. Even after 15 years it’s still as good as many cases out there today.
