I7 7820x - any thoughts?

Hey. I'm really new here so please forgive anything stupid I say.
Given the apparent recent successes with the 7700k, is there any way of correlating a rough compatibility for the forthcoming 7820x?

I need to really asssemble the most powerful machine I can afford right now for 3D work and compositing, although it is of course my first attempt and a gamble like that is probably daft... right?

If anyone else is thinking of giving this chip a go in the very near future then would be great to hear your thoughts...

No, it's a completely different platform. I'd wait for the release of the iMac Pro, it should add native X299 support to OS X.

Apple will use Xeon CPUs.
Is X299 compatible?

X299 isn't compatible yet, but I'd expect support when the iMac Pro is released. It's not exactly the same thing as their server/workstation chipset (C620), but they're closely related.
