i7 6700k or i7 7700k?

Began buying parts for my Hackintosh build, got the motherboard, GPU, case, and slowly getting there. One component I am kind of torn on at this point is the CPU.

I realize that the 7700k Kaby Lake processor is not currently supported. From what I am reading, it seems like it is inevitable that eventually I will be able to get Hackintosh to boot with the 7700k. The 6700K has a base of 4.0 and can be boosted to 4.2, the 7700K starts ay 4.2 and can be overclocked to 4.5. That's a good chunk of improvement in my book.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I had to run on Windows only for some time before I can install Hackintosh on my second SSD. I have a MacBook Pro so I wouldn't be completely out of the Mac system.

I do realize that it is risky cause there is technically a chance it will never be supported. I just don't know how long approximately the timeline would be. Anyone have an idea?

Unlikely to get OS X support until at least the Apple WWDC which is probably going to be around June time. It is possible they might announce an iMac/Mac Pro refresh before then but I don't think it is very likely given historical evidence. That means you probably won't have support until the middle of 2017 maybe later.

He's right. Apple does not support Kaby lake yet. THey might though if a new iMac is released soon. THey might not have released one last year because they were probably waiting for kaby lake.

Well, Kaby Lake is virtually the same as Skylake, just on a slightly improved process, so I'd expect it to work fine in OS X (might need FakeID).

It's not really worth buying though, the real world difference can barely be measured. It seems to offer slightly more OC headroom, but that's basically it.

So you think it will support it?
If Apple uses one in the new Early 2017 iMacs then it will have full support. That's at least 2-3 months off.
