i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

I'm also looking at making a 2011 build. Probably going to go with the 3930K.

What is the consensus on Motherboard right now? It seemed when I built my last machine, LGA1366 machine, Gigabyte was the best option as it had the most support.

I like the ASUS 2011 motherboards better than the Gigabyte ones though and I'd prefer to get an P9X79. Looks like a few of you have it working, but once/if the MP's get updated will there be better support for the Gigabyte boards? Or do you think I'd be fine with an ASUS board? (I have built 1 Hackintosh before, somewhat familiar with it, but not super experienced in DSDT editing)

My ASUS P9X79 Pro just arrived today. I will probably plug it in tonight or tomorrow. From other responses in this thread it should mostly just work. Audio/Networking might need attention, but adding a PCI-e ethernet card is not a deal-breaker for me, so really I just want all the cores to work at ~4.5-4.8GHz with solid benchmarks.

i´m really interested what you can achieve with this board.
is there a special reason you chose the P9X79 Pro not the P9X79?
since the pro has the not perfectly compatible Marvell PCIe 9128 SATA III controller..

I have been playing with the AUS P9X79 Pro most of the day. Seems to work great.

Installation:
Used normal USB Lion thumb installer: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... pic=256729
Using the latest Chameleon 2.1 from buildbot: http://builds.voodooprojects.org/builds/Xcode4.1/
Installed the attached Extra folder and a few kexts to S/L/E

Benchmarks:
Cinebench scores of 13.96 @ 4.9GHz ~9.14 stock
Turbo Enabled in BIOS (but Power Management doesn't work)
SpeedStep Disabled in BIOS (otherwise OS X benchmarks do not reflect overclocked speed)

Does Work:
CPU speed+overclocking
Audio
Ethernet
AppleLPC loads

Doesn't Work:
USB 3.0 seems to work at USB 2.0 speeds
Bluetooth
Does not display AHCI Controller's Properly
Native Power Management
-can't boot without NullCPUPowerMangaement
-sleep does not work

rename to EHC1 EHC2, added AAPL Info
Shutdown

Thanks for the info and the DSDT! Much appreciated. I will be picking mine up soon too. Can you confirm exactly which kexts you added to SLE? Did you also install a Smbios.plist? What does your chameleon.plist look like?

For USB 3.0 did you try the info in the post here for the Asmedia chip: viewtopic.php?t=22339&p=262756 by Ramsay1873:

Download and install USB 3.0 Boost Full Package Version V1.00.05 from the link below install it in windows then restart in OSX and its fully working It flashes the firmware!

that seems promising!
interesting results! have you tried other benchmarks yet? did you also tinker around with Snow Leopard?
did you try the automatic overclock feature of that board or set it your own?

so the native power management is still an issue..
but i´m sure you figure it out at times.

i want to buy a P9X79, which i want to use as an overclocked working horse
that runs all day long, so power management is important to me.

please keep us up to date on your progress! very much appreciated!!

Thanks for all the info! Does anyone know if the Asus P9X79-WS board will work as well as the pro for OSX? I can see use for all those Pcie slots.

My attached files contain my Extra folder and all kexts installed to /S/L/E. I tried several different SMBios.

The USB 3.0 ports power devices, but all list Up to 480Mbp/s as the maximum speed, which is the USB 2.0 standard. I have a USB 3.0 device arriving soon, perhaps when it is plugged in that will change. I will look at your link though and see if that applies and/or fixes anything,

I don't think I have any chance of getting native power management working--perhaps one of the gurus at insanelymac can. It does not seem to be a matter of DSDT editing as booting without NullCPUPowerManagement.kext results in an immediate reset, not a kernel panic. is so early in the boot cycle that is not a kernel panic, but instead a reset due to being just unsupported. It also did not help that insanleymac was down last night while doing most of this. I was deprived of most of the great DSDT/powermanagement threads =/

Geekbench does not work with this video card, but I suppose I can plug a different one in and update my post.

I manually overclocked as reviews from tech sites indicate that the Auto-overclocker does an OK, but not great job.

I don't think it matters much, but I am using a 16GB 1600MHz (4x4GB) G-skill kit. CAS9 @ 1.5V. Pretty standard stuff.
