Anyone know if this system is supported to make a hackintosh?
I'm not sure what gpu it has (it currently won't boot as it needs a cpu cooler.)
But the specs I know are:
I7 3820
Asus X79 Sabertooth
Kingston SSD
WD hard drive
750w Corsair TX PSU

Ideally I would like it to boot the latest version of Osx, but one or two versions behind wouldn't be too bad.

How hard is it to get it working? Is it worth scrapping the mobo and cpu and switching to another architecture?

Thanks

I think your are good to go with your system...
I also think that you can run the lastest version of mac OS.
I think is isn´t very hard, you need to get power management working with a custom SSDT, install Nvidia Web Drivers, install some scrpits and kexts for audio, install some kexts to S/L/E and maybe create a SSDT to get all USB ports working.
But you should make your research and create a bootable USB drive with Unibeast.

I've made a hackintosh before with a z87 system and it was quite easy. Are there any big differences? Where would I find the scripts kexts ssdts and stuff? Would I use multibeast?

In my opinion it is the best to run Multibeast after you installed mac OS to your system.
With Multibeast you can install kexts for your ethernet, FakeSMC.kext and you can run the scripts for audio.
But first you need to know which audio chipset your system uses...
You can extract ACPI files with Clover, just press F4 or Fn+F4 while your are in Clover boot screen and then your ACPI files like the DSDT and the SSDT should appear in EFI/Clover/ACPI/origin.
More information can you find here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-patching-laptop-dsdt-ssdts.152573/
But keep in mind that the most of the patches are for notebooks, so you should add a different source in MaciASL...

I'm not actually sure. I have a feeling it's an amd card. Or it's an nvidia quadro or workstation graphics card. I need to get a new cpu cooler as the current one is broken. When I do, I'll check what card It is. But even if it's not supported I can get another cheap supported card as graphics aren't a high priority on this hackintosh.
Great!
One question: What is your dedicated graphic card?

so I've made the usb drive... but it doesn't boot... it gets up to error loading kernel cache. boot failed sleeping for 10 seconds before exiting... but it just stays there for ever....

Boot in verbose mode again and make a photo. Attach it!
Also upload the Clover folder of the bootable drive as zip ( delet themes folder before, otherwise the file size is large ).
