I don't see an Introductions section so first off hi!
3rd year computing student and Symfony web developer.
Former linux die hard, born-again mac user!
Built some machines back in my youth for gaming/hacking.
More recently a Lion Mac Mini early 2009 2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo 4Gb RAM user and dual boot (mac/m$) Dell Mini 10v for coffee shop browsing etc.
Got to get out of the Mini box and into something a little more future-proof!
Pro's are verging on disgusting at >£2k and self building, with what seems to be an excellent and growing community ( ) along with the guys at Infinite Loop broadening hardware support, has definitely taken my fancy.
So anyway I thought I'd start a topic for my build for perusal in the hope that one day (soon) it can be migrated to the user-builds section!
Here's what I'm planning, purchases to be made soon:
OS - OS X Lion / Fedora16 / Win7 (not bothered with 8, I'd have XP if I could get away with it!)
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3783&dl=#ov
CPU - Core i7 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz 2600k
http://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Intel-Core-i7-2600K-Processor-(8M-Cache-3_40-GHz)
CPU Cooling - Corsair Hydro H40
http://www.corsair.com/cpu-cooling-...s-h40-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler.html
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600 MHz
http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-pr...hannel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9b.html
HDD - Crucial M4 128Gb
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT128M4SSD2BAA
+ another 500Gb 7200rpm SATA drive thats lying around somewhere!
Case - Lian-Li PC-Q08 Mini-ITX
http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=480&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64
PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W
http://www.coolermaster.co.uk/product.php?category_id=2384&product_id=4202
The plan in the short term is to use the 2600k's HD Graphics 3000 and see how it goes; with the view to later plugging in a 2Gb 6870 (or similar) when the prices drop a little (hence large PSU).
Anyway unless there are any objections I'll be getting my purchase on in the next week.
Thanks for your thoughts.
