i5 760 Overclock

ok so im trying to over clock my 760 i5 and everytime i do my systems is slower then it was at stock, why is this, my mobo is p55a-ud3, i jsut want to get 3.5 or so, but when i do that , i turn on my system and then it is slowed rite down, but when i re load defult bios,i turn on my hack and POW its fast again, what shoudl the break down be for overclocking? could someone rite out exact numbers for which thing i shold be changing, liek volts and what not please thanks again peeps
