I don't "own" the file so can't edit do I want to duplicate?

this might seem like a noob question to most but I'm getting the above message when I try and edit plist text files in kexts and extension folders, necessary for me to get my GPU recognised etc etc but the strange thing is I've done several builds and never had this until 10.12.14?

I'm also aware to get "info" unlock and change permissions to "read and write" but this has no effect?

Am I making a noob mistake here or what the hell is going on?
