Hi,

I have been busy since a while now getting everything setup properly for my system. For now, I have everything I feel important (sound, wifi, ethernet) working except booting the OS with a SMBios profile of a MacBookPro9,1 or higher. I am able to boot with a MacBookPro8,3 profile, however I am not sure if the reading I get reaching P-States "
11/10/13, 10:32:11 PM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 28, 30, 31" is all right? It reaches 31 tops. And, I am curious why I cannot load a MacBookPro9,1 profile.

At current with MacBookPro8,3 SmBios it boots but I also get the following in my bootmsg.
X86PlatformShim::sendStepper - Stepper dictionary from plist is NULL!
X86PlatformShim::start - Failed to send stepper
Anyhow, I have a patched AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement, a patched DSDT and I created my SSDT with ssdtPRGen. If any reports from Darwin Dumper or IOregs are needed let me know but maybe there is a simple answer to my question?

Wow you get so advanced. I've got my 9470m mavericks working as well, but my audio and wifi just doesn't work. Would you please share some hints?

my CPU is just a i5-3437U.

Hi Winapenny,

Audio
- For audio you will first need to binary patch your vanilla applehda.kext. Use apple-hda script to do so.
- Adjust also Platform.xml.zlib and Layout12.xml according to your pin config.
- Adjust info.plist in the plugin AppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver.kext
- Overal this thread here helped me out for my IDT 92HD91BXX ("http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/283754-patched-applehdakext-for-codecs-idt-92hd81b1x5-92hd91bxx-92hd87b13-92hd87b24-92hd87xx-etc/"

WiFI
- Avoid the stress and by yourself a BCM4322 or any other natively supported card from Ebay. Cost you peanuts.
- Also checkout this thread (http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/97099-wi-fi-bluetooth-cards-laptops-mac-os-os-x.html).

Have fun!

Hi Releo,

Thanks for the advices! Somehow I tried to load VoodooHDA v2.7.3 to get the audio, however it seems the sounds are not in very good quality. Also when I use my headphone plugged in the left, the sound is too loud and not adjustable from the system. I have to turn down the volume at each application specific setting.

For the WiFi, I won't buy any extra HW for this purpose. I'd rather use USB or Bluetooth tethering through my Android phone. Both works great!

Moreover I want your additional advice: how do you make the power management, expecially sleep/hibernation working? My 9470m just "refuse" to sleep. Although we're using different CPUs, would you please share some steps you've gone through to make it work?

Finally one strange behaviour of my installation: whenever I tried to create an /Extra/SMBios.plist using either HP Probook Installer or Chameleon Wizard, I'll surely get kernel panic. The OS boot normally only after I remove the SMBios.plist file ...

It's because you created wrong smbios. You can try MacbookAir 5,2. If it does not work, use MacbookPro 8,1

OK I tried MacbookAir 5,2 and MacbookPro 8,1 using Chameleon Wizard. The former failed and the latter succeed. However, still can't be able to get it sleep properly.

Would you please show me the pointer to more detailed tuning on Power Management and related stuff? Many thanks again!

Hi Winapenny,

In most cases it is USB hubs (XHC,EHC1,ECH2) preventing the system to go to sleep. I bet if you try to patch your dsdt with a Rehabman patch in his repository right here: "https://github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch/blob/master/usb_7-series-id.txt" you will get sleep working in a scratch.

I still haven't got any replies though on my own problem. I might have posted my question in the wrong thread.

Cheers,
Releo

Try SMBIOS MacbookPro8,1

Hi Nguyenmac,

Was that for me?

Smbios profile for MacBookPro8,1 works as good as the profile MacBookPro8,3 works for me. That is not my question. I am more interested in why other newer profiles for instance like MacBookPro9,1 or higher are not working for me!? Particularly why that if I remove AppleIntelCPUManagement I can seamlessly login but when I leave the kext to load I get P-State Stepper 18 errors. This is even while I have the correct SSDT for my CPU generated.

Why do I want to check other another profile? Well, I am under the impression that my CPU can reach better speedstep states then I reach now.

ps. I am reading the following in normal load when using the DCPImanager:

11/12/13, 7:35:19 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:14 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:14 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:09 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:09 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:04 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:04 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:34:59 AM, Current State: 31

But I guess you we're not reading my question.

Cheers,

I ask you to change SMBIOS MacbookPro8,1 in hope that it could fix
11/12/13, 7:35:19 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:14 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:14 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:09 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:09 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:35:04 AM, Current State: 31
11/12/13, 7:35:04 AM, P States: 8, 9, 21, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31
11/12/13, 7:34:59 AM, Current State: 31

Is the states generated when you don't have AppleIntelCPU in S/L/E? I think the PStates are normal, your CPU have lowest state 8, 21 at normal, 31 for Turbo Boost 2 score.

About the P-State Stepper 18 errors, did you add DropSSDT = true in Extra/org.chameleon.boot.plist ?

I notice that some ultrabook using Ivybridge undervoltage CPU like yours only work with Macbook Pro 8,x. If we change to 9,1 or MacbookAir 5,2, system can't boot. I don't understand why...
