[UPDATED]

The sale at Newegg has ended, but is continuing on Amazon for the same price!. There is a 1-2 month wait though.

Just bought the HP EX900 250GB to replace my blown HP EX920 250GB!. I think these are slightly slower than the EX920, but it's still going to much faster than a standard SSD. Bit of a no-brainer as the EX900 120 GB is $29.99 and the EX900 500GB is $62.99.

[UPDATE 6/15]

I'm updating my comparison between HP EX900 and EX920. The results I previously posted were not correct because they were tested using different processors. So after swapping out the CPU onto the same board that the EX920 was tested on, I have a fairer comparison. The result I first reported about was using an i7-3770, which read the same NVMe drive 300MB faster than the i3-3245. These results come from the same Dell 7010 MB, $2 adapter card and i3-3245 processor. In the updated image below you can see the results for the EX900, read/write speeds are pretty much the same, with the EX900 scoring slightly higher in the write dept. The main advantage over the EX920 though is operating temperature and life, shown in the HWMonitor window. The EX900 currently installed still has 100% life after 10 days of use. The EX920, though not shown in these photo's, I remember it had less than that after 10 days.
Operating temperatures idle in the low 30s and increase to high 40s when stressed. The EX920 idled in the 40s and hit high 50s when stressed then burnt out!. Overall I would recommend the EX900 over the EX920!, read/write speeds are no different, its cheaper and it's also less likely to burn out.

I thought I'd share this interesting speed comparison between the 256GB HP EX920 M.2, currently $46.99 @newegg. And the 250GB HP EX900 M.2, on sale until next Wednesday!, currently $33.99 @ newegg. The EX920 burnt out after about 2 months of use. I read some reviews of the EX920 later and noted that some had reported high temperatures and short life. So I bought a 250 GB EX900 instead, for the low price I was prepared to put up with, what I thought would be a slower drive.

The EX900 250GB has gone back up to 40 USD at Newegg but is still $33.99 on Amazon.com.

Excessive heat is the achilles heel of any fast NVMe drive. This is why higher end ones often come with a heat sink pre-attached. Whenever they get heavy use they will heat up quickly because of the large amount of data moving back and forth at a high rate.

The EX900 runs much cooler than the EX920 and read/write speeds are the same!. The prices on the HPEX900 are better than the EX920 yet the two that I have owned at least, ran at the same speed. I would definitely get another EX900. I updated my post to reflect the differences between the two using the same processor, motherboard (Dell7010) and adapter.

The 500 GB version is now $64 at Amazon and Newegg

https://www.newegg.com/hp-ex900-500gb/p/N82E16820326251

That's less than a Samsung 860 EVO 500 GB Sata based SSD which costs $78 at Amazon now.
So you save 14 dollars and get four times the read and three times the write speeds when you
connect to a M.2 slot with 4 PCIe lanes. Best of all, NO WAIT to get one, ships immediately.

It's also only about 4 dollars more than a Crucial MX500 500 GB drive.

Here are my read and write speeds for the HP EX900 1TB.

Thanks for sharing that with us @maniamax36, over 1.5GBs write and almost 2GBs read speeds is good!. Is this the first NVMe you have fitted to your system?, and how is the temperature?.
These EX900's seem to be more stable and cheaper than the EX920, but are becoming more difficult to get hold of. The 1 TB version is still $109 on Amazon but stock is low!. The 250 GB EX900 is $34 on Amazon, back in stock July 5.

@craighazan Yes, this is the first NVMe drive I have in my system. I did a carbon copy clone of my drive (160GBs) and the temps got up to 59 celsius tops.
