HP Elitebook 8470p AMD only

Just want to share how to install OSX 10.11.3 on my Elitebook 8470p (hardware spec in signature) using Clover ver3320. It has been quite painful with the Radeon chipset !

Please let me know where to find basic information explaining Kext injection, DSDT, etc, particularly how Clover interacts with these componenets and location of troubleshooting tools for download. Google mostly produces leads with specific issues these days...

My problem :

laptop always gets stuck in Apple logo, after installing HP Probook Installer version 6.4.6
Progress bar is near the end of it

What NOT works

My HP has a Radeon 7650M graphics chip (what OSX tells me). I selected these options and get messages like the attached screenshot :

OSX support kexts 6x70b/8x70 AMD/nVidia
Config and DSDT patcher 6x70b/8x70p AMD


Combo that Works

OSX support kexts 6x60b/8x60 AMD
Config and DSDT patcher 6x70b/8x70p AMD

Remaining Issues

Sleep does not work properly -creen will not turn off but mouse will barely move as it enters sleep. Same for Energy Saver - it will go into Sleep when "Display Sleep" times out, even hard drive is set to "Never sleep".

Final Note

Between 10.11.2 and 10.11.3, "OSX support kexts", both have to be "6x60b/8x60 AMD". For 10.11.2, "Config and DSDT patcher" can be either "2x70p/6x70b/8x70p" or "6x60b/8x60p AMD"

Moved to separate thread...

Make sure IntelBacklight.kext is not installed. It is not appropriate for AMD only systems.

IntelBacklight.kext is not in Clover. It is never injected knowingly. If OSX always loads it, let me know how I may stop it.

I sent this post to summarize my experience for someone's benefit in case they have the similar hardware - I have seen a number of IOCTL errors and a stuck Apple logo in Google that remains unanswered.

I wasn't bothered with the Sleep problem. I have met my objective to have a functioning Mac on the HP. I was highlighting it to the reader of remaining issue had they followed my approach.

I did mean to ask for pointers to basic and/or general reading material and troubleshooting tools. I want to dig deep into the fundamentals in order to grow my knowledge in Hackintosh and boot process of OSX.

Let me know if you have some links to share.

Check on your system volume in /S/L/E and /L/E.

I have the same EliteBook 8470P and had the same exact issue. By booting with the installation USB, and going to /S/L/E to remove IntelBacklight.kext fixed the problem! Thanks RehabMan for the quick and accurate information.Now my only issue might be the machine is always black screen once wake up from sleep. I guess I will do more work at my side...

Hello ! I need some help, cuz I wanna install OS X Sierra on my EliteBook 8470p AMD only,
And after create a usb OS X Sierra, I don't know if I need to use Clover or HP Probook Installer to prepare mi USB Stick, can anyone help me?

Follow the Clover guide linked from the FAQ.

Use ProBook installer source code to determine special settings required in your config.plist.
Keep in mind that sleep is broken on 10.11+ for AMD/Radeon laptops.

My friend RehabMan, i have an issue, finally installed MacOS Sierra on my Elitebook 8470p with Only AMD, but after install same way clover and hp pro installer for the kext, when boot is black screen, but if i boot it with the usb all working fine!

and i dont see any IntelBackLight.kext.

please helpme!

P.D. Sorry for my bad english!
