The seller only lets you purchase one HP 8300 at this $99.50 price on Newegg.

These will work with Mojave if you either upgrade the CPU to one with HD4000 graphics or install a Metal 2 Capable graphics card. For basic, working graphics a GT 710 is a great choice. For a little over $130 AR get the MSI RX 560 Low Profile version.

Also a good idea to install an 8GB kit of matched ram for best performance with Mojave. Cost is $49 for an 8 GB Kit.

This guide works for either High Sierra or Mojave. Use the newest versions of UniBeast and MultiBeast to install Mojave.

These HP 8300s (SFF) are now the best selling desktop on all of Amazon.com. The largest online store in the world !
Their amazing reliability and compatibility with any operating system is the reason for this. You can use XP, 7, 8, 8.1 Windows 10, any version. ChromeOS, macOS and any flavor of Linux you'd like. You could have a multiboot machine with 8-10 different operating systems on it. (just don't put all of them on the same drive) You can use it as an HTPC, gaming computer, business desktop or server. Most any possible use scenario. Truly the Swiss army knife of desktop PCs.

Don't let the conservative business desktop look of the case stop you from trying one. The case itself and components are nearly server quality and are easily replaceable and upgradable by the end user. For example, you can get a replacement mobo or PSU on Ebay for under $15. In perfect working condition too. I plan to keep mine going for at least another 7-8 years. They're really built that well. And like the old Ford Model T car of 100 years ago you can have one in any color you'd like, as long as it's black.

Well, that's not completely true. If you are a PC modding enthusiast you can still do a lot with the 8300. Check out the modstek Youtube channel for some ideas. His HP SFF PC mods are truly amazing. See the Star Trek and Linux Mint mod he does too.

Here's a video montage of many of the HP SFF mods done by modstek

You can now get one for $79.50 on Ebay. Just remember you will need to either install a compatible low profile graphics card or swap the CPU for one with HD4000. Very easy to do either of those things. Only 15 left as of today. For any new build you will pay more than $79.50 just for the motherboard alone. You can use the Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 10 Pro. That alone is worth at least $100 by itself. You could easily spend $80 on just a high quality mATX case. This case has thick steel with no flex, nice looks and is built to last. The power button, USB ports and everything else is top quality construction. The retail selling price for these was originally around $1,300 back in mid 2012. Below you can see the price for a new one today at Office Depot's US website.

EDIT: Looks like it just went up in price 10 dollars since I posted this about 12 hours ago.
There are still 12 available at this price though. Buy one today if you really want one for yourself.

@trs96 Your Guides on these 8300 and the Dell 7010's/9010's are absolutely fantastic and I've gone over them multiple times, to the point where I'm itching to get started.....my only quandary now is - which to buy! :)

Given your personal experience with both the Dell's and HP's (7010 vs 8300) which would you favour for a reliable, daily 'workhorse'/driver?

UK prices for both are in the £120 - £220 range (depending on spec) so it really seems they are broadly very similar etc.

If you were to buy today, which of the models would be your personal preference?

Richy.

It's really very close. I tend to use my i7-3770 Dell 9010 SFF more. It's a nice small form factor, has the option to install a LP graphics card. Can fit right on my desk. The HP SFF models are larger but the fans are quieter and you can install more hard drives with the extra space. Your choice depends on what is most important to you.
