<< Solved >> HP 450-G4 direct install fails

I have an HP 450-G4 running Mojave and I tried to do a direct update by just running the Install app
and it goes though select the select drive/disk page and then I just get the spinner, with App not responding
in the Activity Monitor.

Is a direct update possible or do I need to create an install USB and then boot & install from that?

Solved, I believe. I created a usb install stick and tried to install from it.
The installed stopped at select disk due to not enough space on disk to install,
so I freed up some space and then tried to install again, and it went fine.
