Hi! First off want to thank @KNNSpeed for writing the Dell 9560 guide and @Mr.J-J for the pointer on how to add the 3rd antenna for the DW 1830.

Can someone please guide me on the most optimal method of installing the 3rd antenna into the antenna module for use with the DW1830 Wifi card in an XPS 9560?

I purchased the extra antenna that @KNNSpeed recommended from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MAV4Z2O/?tag=tonymacx86com-20 to use with the DW1830 WIFI Card. The display has been removed from the main chassis of the XPS 9560. I have removed the antenna module and upon examination, I have absolutely no idea how long (or short) the new antenna should be. Should I remove the antenna from the circuit board and solder the end without the connector to some place on the antenna module? Please see the pics attached for what the stock module looks like with the 2 stock antennas as a reference.

Many thanks in advance!

Just one data point, but I have tried using the DW1830 on my elitebook G3 and speeds were significantly reduced. I used the same antenna but did not resolder it. I merely used the adhesive back part and attached to inside of case body. I am in the process of switching cards to see if speeds improve.

Thank you for the data point @hkfan45. Can you please tell me which connection on the DW1830 wireless card you connected the antenna to? I wonder if that makes any difference at all. In any case, please keep us posted on your progress.

It should not really make much difference the DW1830 uses active antenna balancing so will pull in the strongest single it can from each of the antenna's. If you laptop has two antenna as standard just connect them to antenna ports 1 and 2, connect the new antenna to the antenna connection 3 and try it.

if it seems slow try swapping them around but i doubt it not make much difference.

I recently fitted a DW1830 in a 15" HP Spectre X360, since the screen is bonded i placed the third antenna under one of the vents at the side of the keyboard, its not optimal but it works as long as the antenna is behind plastic or as in my case free air it should pull something in.

You might get some pointers by reading about my experiences installing the DW1830 here :-

If you have slow wifi and/or dropped packets with the DW1830 after sleep/wake and have tried the other generic wifi fixes without success you can use my workaround here:-

FYI, I swapped out my 1830 from my elitebook G3 due to slow speeds and replaced it with a 1560. Now I have full speed. I tried swapping all the antennas around with the 1830 but never could get the speed issue fixed. I feel it was a driver issue and not a hardware issue with the 1830.

Jay - Thank you very much for the tips. Will definitely post my findings up once I figure out how to get High Sierra Working on my XPS 9560.

Did you find it out? If so, how did you install the 3rd antenna?
You have to actually thread it through the existing holes. Hope this photo helps.
