Want the Start Button and Menu and all of that sweet sweet legacy functionality in Windows 8? Start8 is a simple app by Stardock that brings back the Start Button in Windows 8.

In my opinion, this is definitely something that Microsoft should think about putting back into Windows 8, or at least adding a switch in the control panel to enable.

I got win 8 for the 15 dollar upgrade posted the other day and have been liking it so far but this just finished the deal. Don't see why they took away the start button but glad to see its back.

There's several utilities out there right now, however they all have their own look. I found a tool called "ViStart" that looks EXACTLY like the Windows 7 Start Menu - http://www.lee-soft.com/vistart/

regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
RPEnabled = 0
reiniciar

That only works in the preview version of Windows 8, not the final.

Agreed!! I bought Win 8 at the £15 offer price the other day (it would have been rude not to). I intensely dislike the Metro UI - it feels like exactly what it is, a mobile device interface on a desktop. I can only imagine that Microsoft must be providing some tools to disable or remove it for corporate customers. I used to manage some corporate customers once upon a while and this interface will be a nightmare for them for all sorts of reasons not the least of which being user education!This is why I suspect Microsoft will have a tool for removing or disabling. It would make much more sense to simply put the option in the control panel somewhere but I suspect they are afraid people will say its not a new OS then. Why would they say that - well if you don't use the Metro UI despite the different aesthetics it feels very much like Win7 which is not necessarily a bad thing when I compare that with using a mobile interface on a desktop.
